Steven Clark Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 29, 2025.
STEVEN RALPH CLARK passed away on December 24, 2024 at his home in Brentwood with his loving family at his side. He was 81 years old.

Steve was born on July 21, 1943 in Berkeley, CA to Eugene and Doris Clark. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joanne Clark, daughter Laurie MacKarness (Chuck), son Mike Clark (Debbie), stepdaughter Georgia Banke, brothers Wayne Clark and Gary Clark, sister-in-law Maureen Bowman and brother-in-law Nick Furtado. His parents and older brother, James Clark, predeceased him. Steve loved being a grandfather to his four grandchildren, Christopher Eaton, Ashley Hamilton, Brandi Haddock-Clark and Matthew Steven Clark, and his great granddaughters Charlotte and Hollie Hamilton. He was delighted with every moment he spent with them, and especially trips to Disneyland and Twain Harte. He is also very loved and missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He grew up in Oakland and graduated from Fremont High School in 1960. He then served in the Army and Army National Guard from 1961-1968; he received his Honorable Discharge on December 31, 1968 as Spec 5 USAR. While in-service, he also qualified as a Sharpshooter (Rifle - M-1). He was proud to serve his country and had a deep love and respect for all things military.

The majority of Steve's career was spent in management at Gillig, a bus manufacturing company in Hayward, from 1976-2013, retiring as Director, Warehouse and Logistics. His hard work and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his co-workers.

Beyond his professional achievements, Steve was a man of many passions and talents. He loved time spent with his family and friends, running, working out, his pugs, golf, travel, politics, travel in his motor home, and making wood stumps into carved animals/cars to put in his yard in Twain Harte, which was his favorite place to be. He and Joanne enjoyed extensive travel throughout Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean and the U.S. with their great friends. He lived his life with enthusiasm and gratitude.

He enjoyed watching his pugs in dog shows and bred and raised many champion pugs for 20 years. He was a member of the Northern California Pug Club for many years.

He and Joanne met on a blind date in 1985, arranged by their friends, Bob and Keven Birdwell. They married in 1988 and lived in Hercules from 1987 until moving to Brentwood in 2021. They considered each other the loves of their lives.

Steve was a very spiritual man with a deep faith and belief in God and eternal life after death.

Everything Steve did was done with passion and a zest for life. His motto was to "be positive" and make the most of every day, and he encouraged his family and friends to live each day with a positive attitude. His presence will be deeply missed by his wife, family, and friends, who will love and cherish him always.

A celebration of his life was held on January 26, 2025.

Donations to his memory can be made to Tunnel to Towers or Northern California Pug Club, two organizations that were close to his heart.
