Steven Desjardin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2024.

Steven John Desjardin, aged 63, left this earth and found peace on November 5, 2024. Born on November 29, 1960, in Fort Kent, Maine, Steve was a vibrant spirit whose life was a testament to love and laughter.

Steve graduated from Fort Kent Community High School and the Spa Tech Institute, pursuing his calling as a hairstylist. For over forty years, he helped people feel like the most beautiful versions of themselves. Known for offering countless free services, he often visited nursing homes to style residents' hair, believing everyone deserved to feel beautiful, no matter where they were in life. Early in his career, he opened two salons in southern Maine: Hair Crafts Plus and Hair Dimensions. After selling these businesses, he shared his talents in various other salons. Following in her father's footsteps, Steve's daughter Audrey opened her own salon in 2022, named The Hair Garden in tribute to their shared last name, meaning "of the garden."

Steve was truly multifaceted, known for his unique laugh and love of a good time. His sense of style was unmatched, and his humor could make anyone laugh until they cried. With an innate ability to light up any room, he spread joy, laughter, and warmth everywhere he went. Steve's fun-loving nature and boundless kindness left an impact on countless people, who were privileged to experience his love and acceptance without limits.

Steve's legacy will live on through his daughters, Olivia Macy Desjardin of Portland, Maine, and Audrey Desjardin Laflamme and her husband Jacob Laflamme of Saco, Maine. One of his favorite things was sharing photos of his girls and proudly telling anyone who would listen about them.

Steve is also survived by his loving family, including his sister Bonnie Desjardins and her husband Duane Belanger; sister Judy Dostie; sister Elaine Burns and her husband John Burns; sister Dianne Rossignol and her husband Dave Rossignol; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Each of them has been deeply touched by his love and will carry his spirit in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Winnie Desjardins, and his beloved dog, Duncan. They surely welcomed him with open arms and showed him the peace that is eternity.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and honor his life with a celebration as big as his personality. As we reminisce about his infectious laughter and love for the spotlight, we will celebrate the gift that Steven John Desjardin was to us all.

In lieu of flowers, Steve's daughters request that donations be made to The Trevor Project or The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation in memory of Steve's place in the LGBTQ+ community and his courageous battle against bipolar disorder.

Steve was a great person...We worked together at an Italian restaurant in Maine. There was never a dull moment with him being around from his laughter to his jokes.. I knew he has 2 daughters because he wouldn't stop talking about them. He adore those girls. He will be missed. My condolence to his entire family.

Over 20 yrs ago in my 40´s I found my favorite hairstylist Steve. I said if you ever move please let me know because unloved the way u do my hair. He had an uncanny sense of what would look good if you wanted to change it up to something different. We became friends. We´ve been talking a lot since and have met up some since as well. He´s so nice looking he could have been a model. He is one of the most kind people I´d ever met. He´d say come stay with us for the weekend we´ll go out and have fun. We did. He would tell me he´s working a lot and very hard in past years when living in Maine and florida so he could see his daughters and spend money on them. I will always miss Steve and our conversations about life, hopes and dreams.

Steve, you are and always will be family to me.
I will always remember when you would put chocolate on your 2 front teeth and make everyone laugh.
You were full of love and your joy was contagious to those around you.

I don´t think you could have ever know just how much you were love and the mark you left of the hearts of so many.

I met Steve when we went to cosmetology school together. I was new to the area coming from the county as well. He always had the biggest smile and truly accepted everyone. I hope he finds peace and I hope he will be one of the first to greet me in heaven. Steve was loved by so many people and I hope he felt that.

I have known Steve a majority of my childhood. Some of my early memories of him always included his awesome mustache he used to have, and his infectious laugh that lit up a room. However, I also remember him as a co-worker at David´s in Kennebunkport. I´ll always remember when we had a guest who only spoke French, we would holler over to Steve to translate or communicate with them. I was lucky to have those few memories of him, and I hope his soul found the peace it needed.

Rest in Peace, Steve.
