The unexpected death of Steve has shaken me deeply. Until last I had contact with him, although unfortunately not as often as before. It was Steve who believed in my ideas almost two decades ago, which was admirable and proved of his greatness, since my background was a completely different discipline. Over the years, he has been with me as a PhD thesis advisor, mentor, and also as a friend. Today, I pass on much of what he imparted to me to young students. In short, Steve shaped my professional career like no other personality. I am incredibly grateful to him for this and will carry his intellectual "legacy" into the future with great respect.

I had the pleasure and privilege to know Steve and to learn from him. He was a great scholar but even more so a wonderful human being who was always willing to help others. I cherish the memories of our many encounters from Lyon to various Academy meetings over the years. He will be dearly missed. My thoughts are with Steve's family and loved ones.

Dear Beverely,

Please accept my condolences. What a beautiful and complete eulogy. I trust you will be able to overcome Steve´s loss and transform this grief into your fabulous artwork. I remember fondly the time spent in Barcelona with both of you. Steve was a mentor and friend to many of us in the profession and he will be missed a lot. I want to say thanks for all I learned from Steve both from his example and from his teachings.

Steve was one of the smartest, kindest, and most generous professors I have ever known. Many of his doctoral students would also add sexiest. He had it all - and on top of everything - an amazingly fun, gorgeous and inspiring wife! And yet, he was always humble and a gentleman - someone who enjoyed helping others, especially junior academics achieve their first publications! The last time I saw him and Bev was in Paris - we had dinner after going to the amazing L´Atelier des Lumieres exhibit. Coincidentally, I´m going to the show now in NYC in a few weeks. I´ll send many prayers and well wishes to Bev and Steve´s family while there. Like the artists featured in the show, Steve inspired so many of us and simply being around him, always brought peace and light.

Much love,

Steve's many academic accolades can never match what he gave the rest of us as a friend and exemplar. He was a kind and giving human being who will be sorely missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Steve's passing. He was one of the most majestic thinkers of our field and managed to carry his fame with great modesty. He is partially responsible for getting me interested in research.

Rest in wisdom and grace Steve.

A great scholar and teacher. Our careers dove-tailed in many ways, as we both enjoyed time at UMass and UConn, and we connected at many AOM and SMS meetings. A person's best legacy is his family, and he clearly had two great families: his wife and sons, and his students and colleagues. His light shines on. Thanks, Steve, for the inspiration.

One of the nicest, brightest people I´ve met. Greatly enjoyed Steve´s visits to Glasgow and Strathclyde and grateful for his company and insights. Condolences to his lovely family.

I count Steve as one of the most significant mentors of my academic career. He encouraged me to step out, be bold, and not be afraid of what anyone else thought about the work I was doing as long as I believed in it. He taught me to be a tough but compassionate professor. Thank you Steve for all the ways you encouraged and challenged me over the years. My sympathy to his family in the loss of a true gentleman and leader. May all of us who knew him continue to live out his legacy.

I was so saddened to hear of Steve's passing. I worked with Steve for many years at UConn delivering instruction in both our EMBA program and other Exec Ed programs that I managed. I could always count on Steve to deliver a quality program. He was also a very caring person and he interacted extremely well with all our students. My condolences to Beverly and the rest of his extended family. He will very much be missed. RIP

What an amazingly accomplished human being Steve was. But most important are the tributes to his kindness, humility and generosity people have acknowledged. How lucky were you as a family to have a husband and father like him?

Beautiful tribute to a true gentleman scholar. I have fond memories of Steve's extremely developmental nature in coaching aspiring academics. And he was so humble despite being accomplished in so many areas- certainly as a strategy scholar, but also in his running, German language skills, and real business acumen.

No doubt, Steve was a top-notch scholar and colleague. Mo and I will miss our dinners with Steve and Bev. I found Steve's passing a real shock, and stand at the ready to help Bev and the family. I recall many years ago when we were in Egypt and the great time we had. Rest in Peace Steve, you will be missed.

Beverly, James, Aaron, Steve, Jr., grandchildren and partners.

The obituary you wrote for Steve is beautiful. He was an exceptional human being in so many ways and the obituary describes him so well: His intellectual accomplishments were abundant. He was a dedicated scholar which was always so impressive--especially since he always played it down. But his kindness, devotion and humility shine through above all in your beautiful tribute to him. All of you gave Steve so much joy, and Beverly was an amazingly devoted and joyful partner. You were all so fortunate to have him in your lives and he was fortunate to have you. His kindness and acceptance of all people is unforgettable. He will always be in my heart--and all of you are in my thoughts.

Love,
Sheridan
