Many friends and colleagues joined the family of Mr Steven David Heighway (30), of Norbury Drive, Mansfield, for the service at the town's crematorium chapel which preceded cremation. Born at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton, Mr Heighway was educated at Forest Town Primary and Garibaldi Comprehensive schools, and had been a life-long local resident. He had worked as a factory operative for Schutz (UK) Ltd., based at Worksop, for more than 10 years. A footballer, he played for many local sides including Rainworth, Forest Town, Glapwell and Heanor, but in recent years he became a keen gardener. He also enjoyed DIY, building his boys a 16ft playhouse in October. A true family man, he spent most of his time socialising with his wife and sons. Mr Heighway, who died at his home after a 21-month battle with a brain tumour, leaves his wife, Mrs Emma Juliette Heighway, his two sons - seven-year-old Oliver and Freddy (22 months) - and his parents, Mr D. and Mrs B.
