OAKLAND -- Steven Kadnar, 47, of Oakland passed away unexpectedly Dec. 2, 2009, at his residence on Messalonskee Lake.

Born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., Aug. 21, 1962, he was the son of Stephen and Gloria (Streeter) Kadnar.

Steven attended Messalonskee High School and graduated from Kennebec Valley Community College.

He was a member of the Waterville Elks Club and the United Bikers of Maine.

Steven's most proud accomplishments were his two sons, Lucas Kadnar of Auburn and Anthony Kadnar of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Steven enjoyed biking, kayaking, skiing, snowmobiling and sailing in the Caribbean islands. He devoted his life to making his family's life easier.

He was predeceased by mother, Gloria Kadnar, and brother, Terrance Kadnar.

He is survived by his sons, father Stephen Kadnar of Augusta, former spouse Julie Kadnar, sister and brother-in-law Nadine and Gary Cooper of Chelsea, brothers and sisters-in-law Scott and Jen Kadnar of Sidney and Keith and Stephanie Kadnar of Belgrade, sister Kim Moody of Winthrop, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Lucas, Anthony & Julie,

My heartfelt condolences go out to you today and from this day forward. Your Dad was a character in my book, one who will never be forgotten. I have so many wonderful memories of you all from the Oakhill Drive days! It's hard to believe that he has left this earth, but rest assured his soul is in a better place than you and I are now. I lost my Dad this last spring so I know the grief you are going through at this very moment. If any of you ever need an ear, know that I am always willing to listen. I've got a handful of funny memories too that you may or may not remember! Like when the motorcycle fell over in the garage or when your Dad knocked the kitchen light out with the broomstick! Keep his memory alive! Much Love to you and your extended families. xxxxxx

I remember when the Kadnar family moved to Belgrade and my brother Donnie became good buds with Steve and Scott. It was always so nice running into Steve over the years after moving from Belgrade. Having him at Donnie's memorial service meant so much to my family as we always had such a high regard for Steve and his family. Now Steve is with my brother...only the good die young. My deepest regard to the family...my heart hurts for you all.

Steve was always there to lend a helping hand with the activities that Lucas and Anthony were involved in. Not so long ago, he would be found at 6 a.m. at the Colby hockey rink manning the concession stand with great enthusiasm and a big, bright smile ... cracking jokes and helping out fellow parents who were barely awake. His energy was boundless; his helpfulness endless; and his smile infectious. My guess is that his services were needed elsewhere. Lucas and Anthony, your dad was one of the good guys. My condolences to you, your mom and other family members.

Anthony, Lucas, Julie:

We like to remember all the fun times we shared w/you and your dad and mom. We sure had a lot of good times at the camp and in Sidney, w/all of our families together. And that is how we will remember your father and ex.(Julie). One time we saw you boys playing ice hockey, the time we made that hard jigsaw puzzle at your grand parents in Sidney at Christmas time. Your grandma threw it out, remember? Especially when you all drove down to Alabama around Christmas time, (the clapper) Our prayers and sympathy, Uncle David, Aunt Marilyn and John.

Steve, I think that..in the same way that the brightest stars are always shining in the sky,,,the most wonderful people in our lives take up a special place in our hearts and remain with us forever.
Every smile, every kindness, everyday we had the privilege of sharing together..so many things will live on in my life and brighten so many moments in my heart's memory. I will always think of them as such a beautiful gift. And I will never forget who gave them to me. I love you Steve.

My thoughts and prayers are with Lucas and Anthony and the Kadnar family. God bless you all.
