Steven Kaufman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 18, 2011.
Kaufman, Steven Lee passed away on December 14 at home in Boston, MA, lovingly surrounded by his family. The meaning of Steve's life is in all the lives he transformed with his goodness, his music and writing, his wit and sense of humor, and most of all, his sense of love and kindness. Steve's lifelong passion for learning and teaching lives on in our family, and in students from Berklee School of Music, U-Mass Boston and Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Steve will be missed by his wife, Amy Ryan; his children, Noah Kaufman, Hallie Bowman, and Madeline and Chloe Ryan; his beloved grandchildren Eden, Lucy and Colette; his siblings, niece and nephews; and friends and colleagues around the country. A gathering to honor Steve's legacy will be held at 4 p.m., December 22 at the Calhoun Beach Club in Minneapolis. For guest book please visit www.lehmanreen.com. Steve was my friend and even though we didn't see each other, he was never far from my heart. The world needs more people like Steve

Steve taught me how to be human. It was the way he constantly found love and gave love in everything he did. One of my closest friends in the world. I feel the ache and sadness, but the joy he left stays too. Know that I am always there for you, the family remaining.

love,

Lloyd (Zimmerman)

Steve hired me for my first journalism job. He was kind and gentle soul who trusted this young buck to be a Skyway News editor. I have since been in the industry for more than 25 years and for he the past 20 have been a publisher. But I'll never forget the man who gave me my start...

Dear Amy and Family,

A colleague of mine at Berklee College of Music, Steve was a kind, sensitive, engaging, and challenging teacher. He will be missed by his many students and colleagues, whose lives he touched in many ways. My deep condolences to you all.

What a nice guy. He played sax with me for a while in a jazz combo. I'm glad he was able to pursue music at Berklee.

My prayers are with you all in the loss of your father, grandfather and husband Steven. . . I loved working with him as my fellow columnist and then later my editor in the "OLD DAYS" at Skyway News - when he took over the paper for his father Sam. .. Great memories for us all here in the downtown community.
