Steven McNew Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
Steven was born and raised in Bakersfield. He attended and graduated from Panama School and West High School. He then attended five years of Apprenticeship School to become a Plumber. In 1975 he received the Dorothy Donahoe Award for Outstanding Apprentice.

On June 20, 1970 he married his High School sweetheart, Vicki, and they were married for 44 years. He fathered two children, a son, Brandon and a daughter, Kacey. He had two grandsons that meant the world to him. He proudly answered to the name of "Papaw" by Michael and Robbie. He was brother and friend to Ray McNew and wife Donna and Sister Sandy Jackson. He was a loving Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven was initiated into the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 460 March 19, 1971 and retired on March 01, 2014. The Local 460 meant everything to him. He poured his heart and soul into his work and those he worked with and for.

Steven loved his camping trips to Dry Meadow with all the guys. He took pride in keeping his yards immaculate. He looked forward to B-B-Queuing and drinking beer for any reason. He enjoyed taking his Aunt Barbara her mini Frosty's and had a special bond with his Uncle Bobby. Above all, Steven loved his family and would drop everything to help any of them.

Steven is known and loved by many. He was a true and loyal friend. He was a very well known jokester and prankster. If Steven took the time to play a joke on someone, it meant he liked them and he played lots of jokes.

At Steven's request there will not be a funeral but rather a Celebration of Life. This event will be Saturday August 16, 2014 starting at 12:00pm. It will be held at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 460 Hall located at 6718 Meany Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93308. Please come with your Steven stories, eat and celebrate Steven Wayne McNew with us.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
