SCHLESINGER STEVEN SCHLESINGER March 28, 1944 ~ April 25, 2012 On April 25, 2012 Steven Roger Schlesinger, beloved husband of Lesley Solomon and previously Madeline Nesse (of blessed memory); devoted father of Marc Schlesinger (Robin) and Lyle Nesse and cherished grandfather of Maxwell. He was a devoted brother of Fay Freed and June Katz (of blessed memory). Steven grew up in Ithaca, New York and attended The George School of Newtown, PA for his high school years. He received both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Cornell University. He received a PhD in Political Science at Claremont Graduate University in California. Following his graduate studies, he taught Political Science at Rutgers University - Camden and Catholic University in Washington, DC. After his teaching career, he held a number of major public positions. As a presidential appointee confirmed by the Senate during the Regan Administration, he served as Director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics at the US Department of Justice. Next, he held the position of Director of the Office of Policy Development under Attorneys General Richard Thornburg and William Barr. For the past thirteen years, he served as Director of the Statistics Division of the Administration Office of the US Courts. He is predeceased by his first wife, Madeline Nesse and sister, June Schlesinger Katz. He is survived by his wife, Lesley Solomon; sons, Lyle Nesse and Marc Schlesinger, daughter- in-law, Robin and grandson, Maxwell. He is additionally survived by his sister Fay Freed. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 27 at 10 a.m. at Tifereth Israel Congregation, 7701 16th St., NW, Washington, DC 20012. Family will be receiving friends following burial and Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at the Schlesinger residence 12705 Eldrid Place, Silver Spring, MD 20904 after 7 p.m. Arrangements by Hines Rinaldi Funeral Home, Inc. under Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington Contract.Arrangements by Hines Rinaldi Funeral Home, Inc. under Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington Contract
