Steven Tuttle Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jul. 30, 2009.

TUTTLE Steven Roger 1965 - 2009 Passed away quietly in Peachland, BC on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Steve's untimely death is sadly mourned by his partner Katherine Gartner, parents Roger and Diana Tuttle, brother Jeff (Kerry), sister Kimberly (Jo?n), grandmother Wilma, nieces Bryn, Lauren and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Born on September 22, 1965 in Langley, BC Steve was the family historian, whose wonderful talent at telling a story was a source of constant entertainment as he kept us amused and informed with his recounting of British Columbian history and folklore. A voracious reader and student of World history, Steve shared a prolific knowledge of military history with his grandfather and WWII veteran Pat Nairne (predeceased in June 2009). An entrepreneur at heart, Steve pursued many opportunities and passions throughout his life, starting with his first ventures in his late teens and early 20s and carrying through to his last days in which he was the owner-operator of his own food service business. Steve's writing talents were on display in his many published articles, most of which focused on his lifelong passion: auto racing. Steve was introduced to the world of racing at a very early age by his uncle Bob, who was a driver at Langley Speedway. As a youngster, Steve became a fixture at the Speedway, creating the foundation for a passion that never waned. Steve played rep hockey throughout his youth and teen years, but it was auto racing that continued to play a central role in his life. He was fortunate enough to attend races throughout Canada and the US and in recent years he became actively involved at Penticton Speedway, where he performed the role of flagman. Steve's sharp wit, great smile and gentle soul will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. We take solace in the fact that he joins his cousin Jamie and beloved grandparents, Aubrey, Myrtle and Pat who passed before him. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 1:00pm at the Richmond Funeral Home at 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the British Columbia Regiment Association, 620 Beatty St., Vancouver, BC, V6B 2L9 would be appreciated.

Today I found out about Steve's passing. I hadn't seen Steve for a few years, but have the fondest memories him. Like the time he tried to climb into Dad's old camper after a night partying.

I'd like to send my condolences to the whole Tuttle family and to his partner.
