Steven Lawrence Winkle, age 72, passed away at his home in Pittville on September 30, 2018. He was born June 3, 1946 in Redding, California to Donald "Buzz" Winkle and Edna Estes Winkle. Steve graduated from Shasta High School in 1964 and Shasta College in 1967. In 1967 he married his wife of 52 years, Merlalice Campbell. Steve worked for Main Industries/Big Valley Lumber Co. for 30 years. After the mill closed, he worked for Sierra Pacific in Burney before retiring. Steve enjoyed exploring with his brother Dan, hunting, playing cards and watching the Dodgers and 49ers. He loved softball and played both fast and slow pitch softball for many years and spent countless hours playing catch with his daughters. Steve is survived by his wife Merlalice of Pittville, his daughters Dianna (Daniel) of Susanville and Merri (Kurt) of Redding, his brother Dan of Alturas, and THE PRIDE AND JOY of his life, his only grandchild, William Beterbide of Susanville. He is also survived by 2 nieces and 9 nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack. Per Steve's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Intermountain hospice in Steve Winkle's memory.
