Sue Goldfarb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 10, 2024.
Oklahoma City - Sue Ellen Goldfarb died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 due to complications from surgery.

Sue was born November 3, 1951 in Portsmouth, Ohio, one of eleven kids of Henry C. and Dorothy J. Clausing. Though money was tight and living conditions were cramped, there was always much love in their home and she was close with her siblings until her final day.

At Clay High she excelled at sports and academics where she was valedictorian. At Ohio University, she met Alan Goldfarb; she would always speak fondly about how she straightened him out after a courtship began over games of euchre and cheap beer at the local watering hole. They would marry on graduation day, 1973. She would go on to get an MBA at Ohio University.

She moved with Alan to New York City, where she took a job at Ernst & Young, one of the few female accountants in the firm during that era, she always proudly recounted. Every Oscars night, she would also recount that she would have been the one adding up Academy Awards votes for the firm and appearing on stage with an attache case handcuffed to her wrist, if she hadn't chosen to become a homemaker once the family moved to Oklahoma City.

In Oklahoma City, she raised Aaron, Rachel, and Sarah running the school math club, ferrying them to school, and countless sports practices in a pastel yellow Volvo station wagon. She would even earn a coaching license and coach her daughters' soccer team, the Twisters.

By the time the children were able to get themselves around town, Sue had gone back to work, teaching AP Calculus at Putnam City West High School and making a slew of new teacher friends, gleefully helping train the next generation of math nerds. She proudly wore her punny shirt on 3/14 every year.

In recent retirement, Sue found a new passion in pickleball, playing several times a week at Healthy Living Center with her "PB Posse." Damn if she wasn't hard to hit a passing shot on!

She returned to teaching during the pandemic by running the "Grandma Sue Virtual School" for her grandkids Warren and Vaughn.

She loved her children, her grandchildren perhaps even moreso, and gathering the family for spring break and summer trips wherever on the globe her kids would gladly let her pay for. She stoked her children's passions, whatever they were, no matter how ridiculous or non-lucrative they might prove to be in the future. She was never seen without her iPad, constantly playing games, and posting full photo albums of her family on Facebook well after people did such a thing. She literally saved every single piece of art and writing her children made in their lifetimes.

She never forgot anything from her and her family's life and may have sometimes even repeated these stories ad nauseum. Without her, we will have lost many of our memories, but she will never be forgotten.

While in the hospital, Sue and Alan celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband Alan Goldfarb, children, Aaron Goldfarb (Betsy), Rachel Goldfarb (Asaf), and Sarah Vendittelli (Tony); grandkids Vaughn, Warren, Ellie, and Wilder; her siblings Kenny, Tom, Danny, Lisa, Carla, Marsha, Brenda, Paul, and innumerable nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Dorothy, brother Jim and sister Elaine.

A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date.

I remember Sue when I lived in OKC because she always had a smile on her face. She had a special connection with kids and I know she had a great impact on so many.

Sue and her roommate, Dottie, were two of my good friends at Ohio University. We lived on the same floor in our dorm and were all three math majors. We had so much fun, we partied more than we hit the math books, but we made it through successfully. I can't begin to count the number of euchre games we played. We also played on a coed softball team, CAMP OU. We've kept in contact over the years. I last saw Sue in 2008 as she was returning home from a visit with her Ohio family. She arranged to meet me and my college roommate, Debi, at the Columbus airport on her way back home. I just wish i could find those pictures from our last visit. We always said we'd meet up again, not realizing how short our time left would be. She was always smiling and so full of life. I was blessed to have known her. My sincere condolences.

Sue taught across the hall from me at Putnam City West; her warmth and kind nature was evident from her first day. She cared so much about her students, about her family, and her friends. I just loved her joy that came from within, her quick wit, her wisdom, and her friendship. I wish we had more time, Sue, and I treasure the time we had. So sad that she´s gone way too soon. My heartfelt prayers for Alan and all the family, especially the precious grands.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Sue in person. I was a Wordle Buddy via Facebook. She was so kind to explain how to increase my score in Wordle to me and ALWAYS sent complimentary FB P/M's on my daily stats.

I was very lucky to have such a wonderful person cross my path.

Oh no, my sincere condolences to the whole family and friends for their loss. Sue and I not only were in the same class of "69" but also neighbors in Rosemount. I remember playing with all of them. She lived on New Garden and I lived one street over on New Rose Ave. We had some great memories!

Sue was my student when I taught mathematics at Clay High School in southern Ohio in the 1960´s. She was an excellent student and it made me happy to learn that she became a math teacher, also. We were Facebook friends and I could tell from her postings that she was a wonderful teacher. I taught Kenny and Tom, also. My condolences to them and the whole family and to her students who, I am sure, loved her.

I had Mrs. Goldfarb my senior year at PCW. I always hated math but knew that I had to have this credit. I gave her hell just about everyday but she never stopped pushing me to do better and to finish strong. She never gave up on any student and took extra time before and after school to help achieve a good grade in any subject. She had a huge heart for her students and will be missed by many. Sending prayers to the family and friends.

June 12, 2024

I met Sue at a sisterhood meeting my first month in Oklahoma City. We became instant best friends, especially after we realized that our oldest sons were both named Aaron....And we have been good friends ever since. Our three children are almost all the same age and played very well together. For many years, Sue and I spent most of our free time together. In fact, for the first few years that I lived in OKC, no one was really sure who was Sue and who was Charki! She was a wonderful person, had a beautiful heart, and was a fabulous artist. When my third child was still born, almost 40 years ago, Sue practically moved into my house. She was there to hold my hand when I cried and to help me keep looking ahead. I know she was a wonderful mother and wife and grandmother. And she was a wonderful friend. I know she will be greatly missed. My condolences to Alan and the entire family.

Mrs. Goldfarb was an amazing and encouraging teacher. I was in her 2011-2012 AP AB/BC Calculus class. AP Calculus is notable as a turning point in my life where I stopped disliking math and really began appreciating it. She always infused lessons with humor and kindness including creating custom word problems using our names in them. We also created mini math problem dioramas! Her influence is with me every day in my career.

I know the rest of my classmates felt the same about her - our class made the effort to take a photo with her at graduation. I offer my deepest condolences to her family.

Other than when her four-legged babies were critically sick, I never saw her without a smile. That´s the main way. I picture her. Now I picture her playing pickle ball in heaven with Chloe and Jaspar running around near her. Sam always said that Sue was a really good Pickleball player and very competitive and spirit too, I am so so sorry for your loss I will miss her a lot.

I met Sue at a dinner then spent a Valentines Luncheon with her and a friend. If we had run in the same circle - we would have been the best of friends. She was so smart and fun-loving and joyous. And you could tell she was loved - by Alan and that she adored him. It´s so sad to me when couples who are so happy together lose each other too early. But what wonderful memories... what a great person.

I taught with Sue and at PCW (many years ago) and she always made me laugh because as much as I disliked Math - she loved it! I was just in awe of that! I heard this very sad news late Sunday and just knew that it must be an error. Sue was one of my favorite cousins. So many childhood and college memories. My heart goes out to Alan, the kids and grandkids she cherished, and the rest of the Clausing clan. But also to her students who, I´m sure, will be dismayed by her passing. She was loved by so many...

Sue was an amazing Coach and Mother. I knew her for the past 30 years as my bestie, Rachel´s, mom. At one time she was also my coach, leading the way to many victories with the Twisters.

Her fierce love for her own kids was not where her loved ended. She cared about each and every one of us, and we knew it. Without question, her example has touched my mothering journey with my own kids.

Thanks for everything, Sue, the lessons and encouragement. You will be missed very much.
