Mrs. Sue Chester Minton

Sue Chester Minton, 81, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care in Valdese, following a period of declining health. Sue was born on January 21, 1935 in Catawba County to the late Charlie Gaither and Pearl Eckard Chester. Mrs. Minton was the wife of the late Evangelist and Pastor Oliver Minton. Together they conducted tent revivals for many years before building Amazing Grace Tabernacle - Icard, where her late husband pastored for twenty years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and granny. Survivors include her three children; Larry Minton and wife Sarina of Valdese; Sharon Minton Lane and husband Bill of Connelly Springs, and Kenneth Minton and wife Ellen of George Hildebran; five grandchildren; Nathan Minton, Sherri Minton Coffey, Jennifer Minton Mooney, Kenneth Minton Jr., and a special grandson, Brian Shipman, who was instrumental in his granny's care giving; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Shew of Lenoir, Terry Laws of Lenior, and Sherry Pilkenton of Granite Falls; and brother Ronnie Chester of Sawmills. The family would like to sincerely thank Barbara Caviness for her special care before and after the loss of Mrs. Minton. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 6-7:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. A funeral service will be held at Longview Church of God on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM conducted by Bishop Dale Breidinger, Bishop Ken Jenkins, and Bishop Stewart Lankford. Interment will follow at Henry River Baptist Church.
