My Dearest Sister,

My heart aches for you and your family, I am so very sorry. We are never suppose to outlive our children, but the creator only takes the ones he needs right away. Your daughter was a beautiful soul and she will continue to live through you and her daughter. All my love and strength to you my friend.

Juanita, I too know the feel of your loss. There's nothing worse than loosing your child you gave life to. To watch them grown up to become beautiful young adults, as your child, she was a beautiful young women, in spirit and heart. You got to know she was a product of you, now is the time to find healing, you got to know that only time can heal you, nothing else. I only can say this from my experience of losing my son, Marlin. I know the great spirit will lead her to her relatives and friends and her journey will be safe. I will remember you and your family in my prayers.

Juanita & Family:

Juanita you have always been a role model and mentor to me, You forever taught me to share that gift with others. I met Wastewin a long - long time ago, and through the years her leadership skills, strong devotion to our community and young people shined brightly - she was wise beyond her 23 years.

I worked with her, laughed with her, we talked about kids, community, racism and growing up in South Minneapolis & about life, love and being Indian women in todays world- she was my friend.

She told me I was a mentor for her but she taught me far more then she could have ever realized.

She was a confidante, role model and mentor for my eldest daughter - that is a gift she gave me and provided to many other young people in this world.

She embodied the passion I have for young people being all the creator wished for them to be.

We had many plans and dreams for youth work and leadership in our community. She will continue to live on in the hearts and in the community that she cared so deeply for and I will miss her more then any words can ever express.

Sitting here away from the tragedy but feeling the cut of the loss of Wastewin. Watching from afar the the beautiful woman and mother she had become. I am filled with deep sadness. Wastewin was filled with light and now she has become the light that fills our everyday lives. As we let go of her physical presence we can bask in the energy and gifts she gave us all. Her laughter that filled a room, her smile that brightened your day, and the warmth of her hugs. These are the memories that I will hold in my heart. Love, Blessings, and Prayers to all that loved you my beautiful sister and my friend. I will miss you more than I can even comprehend. Respectfully, Kim Tilsen-Brave Heart
