Susan H. Axtell

Williamsburg Co-op was a magical place for my children because of Susan. Susan always had a smile and a gentleness about her which was infectious.

We are shocked and saddened to learn of Susan's passing. She was always a delight to see, and we enjoyed our visits in our respective homes so much. We shall treasure her memory forever.

A celebration of life will be held on April 15, 2023 at St Martin´s from 10am to 2pm. Susan touched so many lives. All are welcome.

Susan was such a wonderful person and phenomenal teacher. Our son, Will was in her 3 year old class (1996-1997). She loved every student and made each of them feel very special. Susan will be missed but never forgotten.

I didn't know you but I hope you know that Gillie is in good hands now. Please know that he will be well loved and cared for.

Susan was the most beautiful human being.

I am heartbroken my lovely neighbor has left us. She was the dearest, always stopping her car to say hello if I was on the street doing yard chores. Her friendly smile, her incomparable sweetness, were ever present, and I will miss her terribly. When she took over the duty of walking Gilley from Jim, I saw her more frequently and often engaged in longer conversations about family and friends. She was a true treasure. Jamie, our hearts go out to you and your brother. Your mom was the best of us, a pearl among stones, who will ever remain in our thoughts and prayers.

We are so grateful to Susan and miss her so much. She was a wonderful friend to our family and helped our daughter adjust to living in Williamsburg as a high schooler. When our daughter, Grace, arrived in Williamsburg to live with my parents, including my Mom (Susan's "big sister" at Wellesley), Susan had Grace over to bake some wonderful cookies. Susan and Jim also went to Grace's volleyball matches and cheered her on. Susan had such a gift as a teacher and caregiver, as everyone who met her knows. When we visited Williamsburg for holidays, Susan would bring some amazing, hand-made toys for our kids and the materials to make more. We wish to honor her generosity, dedication, righteousness and love. Susan was an inspiration to us and countless others. We offer our prayers for Jim and the Axtell family.

As a Co-op parent of sons Henry and Owen, I reflect on the wonderful presence that was Susan. She was the paragon of warmth and patience, and created the most wonderful art and craft projects. I still have many that my kids brought home. How lucky we were to have had her in our lives.

Mrs. Axtell was an incredible woman and made such a huge impact on all of us who had her as a teacher. She was a gem and will be missed. This is `83.

Susan was my cherished aunt. She was the best listener, supporter, and friend I could ask for.
When I was little, she made me soft dolls with red hair and dainty jewelry. She sent college care packages that included home-made squirrel cookies with chocolate chips for eyes. We couldn´t wait to receive her Christmas packages, wrapped with her signature adornments and beautiful paper.
Her newsy letters used every inch of space, and she loved to talk about family history and quirky relatives, often quoting her dad´s maxim "Be of good cheer."
Susan was the picture of tact, humor, warmth, and generosity. She was a good egg.
