I’m so sorry to be reading this and so late. Sue was such a lovely person and made my visits working at the Clapper home a really fun(ny) experience. My deepest and most sincere condolences to all of you.

I regret I did not get to know Sue, but there is no doubt that she positively influenced your life from the time your were Army brats in Northern Virginia, when you left your collection of Superman and Batman comics in her care when you could not take them with you due to weight restrictions on your Dad's PCS assignment. I believe she learned a lot about how to be a superhero and applied that during her career as your wife. I'm sure those of us who worked with you over the years also benefited from her wise council to you and we benefited not only from your natural talents, but also from receptiveness to inputs from subordinates and colleagues. Please know that my wife and I will stand (maybe with the occasional wobble?) to support you, and be thinking of you in your time of loss. From days at NIMA as a rotational from CIA.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Sue. As one of your colleagues at the ODNI - and a neighbor - I had the honor to know Sue and you on a professional and personal basis. Sue was always a leader in the neighborhood and compassionate to all.

Jim and Family: The reference to "managing 23 moves" in 32 years should remind us all of the service and sacrifices of families such as yours. Joan and I will keep you -- all of you -- in our prayers.

I worked for Mr. Clapper for over a decade and I recall with great clarity how he valued Sue's love and how she made the family whole as he served the nation. My condolences

General Clapper and family, Sadly, we saw Sue's obituary in the 30 March Washington Post. We know what a major roll Sue played. Her love and support enabled you to tackle the tough jobs you shouldered. We can't imagine how hard it is to lose your best friend and soulmate after 67 years of marriage. I wish there was more we could say beyond we are truly sorry. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time.

Jim, you were blessed with a remarkable partner. We feel blessed to have been a very small part of Sue's story as she shared her grace and kindness and generosity with all those, who worked with you during your military and civilian careers. You and your family have our prayers of sympathy.

General Clapper: I am so sorry to hear the passing of your wife Susan. I am glad I had a chance to meet her . . . at the Pentagon of course. I remember you telling her that you were thinking or retiring and she said " . . . no you don't because then you will be home with me." You chuckled. We will pray for her and we will pray for you. Our sincerest sympathy to the Clapper family at their loss. Sue was a wonderful woman (a quintessential military wife) with many interests, many friends around the globe, beloved pets and a wonderful family, she will be missed.

Lt Gen Clapper, Ellen and I are sorry for the loss of Sue. She was your constant mate through your long career. As our paths crossed several times, starting in 1967, I had the pleasure of meeting Sue several times. She was always gracious and cordial. The Lord keep and sustain you as you continue on without Sue at your side.

We were saddened to read this news today and offer our thoughts and prayers for Sue, Gen Clapper, Jenni, Andy and the extended family. When I was serving as executive officer to then-Col Jim Clapper (1982-83), Sue was always so kind and supportive . When my wife, Olga, was at Walter Reed following surgery in 1995, Sue visited and brought her positive energy and encouragement. Her smile and grace warmed any room she entered. We’re so sorry for your family’s loss. We know that she will be missed, but know that there were so many happy family memories to ease the pain.

I am so sorry to hear of Suzie's passing. Our family has been friends since they met in Hawaii in the mid-1970s. While we may have lost touch over the years, Suzie was always a bright light in the world. I have fond memories of our family visiting her parents when they were stationed in Cocoa Beach. We discovered peanut buster parfaits at Dairy Queen and I think of the Clapper family every time I go to Dairy Queen. Sending hugs and prayers to the entire family.

I’m so very sorry to read this in the paper this morning. I worked with Director Clapper at NGA in Bethesda. He was a kind, caring man. My sympathies to you for the loss of your loving wife.
