Dorothy M. Scully

Dorothy M. (Ross) Scully, 93, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023 at St. Antoine's Residence in North Smithfield. She was the wife of the late John J. Scully. Dorothy was born in Providence on February 1, 1930 to the late Helen M. (McCaffrey) Ross and Alfred O. Ross. She attended Blessed Sacrament School and was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Providence.



Dorothy married John J. Scully of Blackstone, MA and together they had four children: daughter Kathleen Scully Berenback (Steven Berenback) of North Smithfield, son John J. Scully of Providence, son Patrick M. Scully of Barrington, son Peter A. Scully (Luisa DeOliveira) of East Providence and two grandchildren, Anya Rose (nee Rose Scully) and John Scully. She was the aunt of Donald Ross, Jr. and his wife Donna Ross.



Dorothy was employed by New England Telephone and the Phone Center Stores for many years before retiring in 1985. She then worked at Kidder Peabody in Providence until 1995.



Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Dorothy twice fought and survived battles with cancer. She is survived by her four children and was preceded in death by three brothers and their wives, Donald and Ann Ross, Paul and Elaine Ross and Peter Ross, who died as an infant.



Dorothys love of travel and reading remained her passions for life, especially the many trips she thoroughly enjoyed with her family both domestic and overseas.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 239 Regent Avenue, Providence. Burial will be private.
