Susan Leichtfuss Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 17, 2024.
Susan M. Leichtfuss (nee Muscato), age 85, died peacefully on April 15, 2024 after a brief illness. Born July 10, 1938, in Dunkirk, NY to Samuel and Lucille (Brochetti) Muscato. Susan is survived by her daughter Ann (Ryan) Schuelke; her grandchildren Ainsley, Audrey and Anderson Olen; her sister Mary Jo Meister; and her brother Kenneth Muscato. Susan also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews and dear friends. Susan was preceded in death by her husband Irvin Leichtfuss, her son Peter Leichtfuss, and her sisters Joan Kuzdale and Carol Edelberg.

After graduating from Dunkirk High School, Susan attended Miami University (Ohio), majoring in Dance. Upon graduation, Susan moved to Milwaukee to become a faculty member at Downer College and established herself as an accomplished choreographer and dance teacher. It was in Milwaukee where she met her husband Irv. Susan and Irv were known for opening up their home and their hearts to many during their 50-year marriage, hosting countless dinner parties where guests often ended up dancing the night away. Not surprisingly, Susan's dance card was always full.

Affectionately known as Aunt Susan/Grandma Susan, Susan showed kindness, generosity and an unparalleled warmth when it came to opening her home to others. The smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the house was commonplace. Susan loved watching college basketball, Brewers baseball and her favorite memories were of Christmas' when the family was all together.

An open house honoring Susan will be held at the home of Ann & Ryan Schuelke on Sunday, April 21st from 1-4pm to celebrate and remember Susan's life and legacy.

I really miss Susan. We enjoyed golfing together and having our Happy Hour drinks together. I hope to see her again some day. She was a wonderful lady and friend. Joyce Marshall

Oh Susan and I had so much fun playing golf together!!! We laughed until we cried on good and bad shots, on good and bad jokes. She was such a wonderful chef, hostess, but most importantly a good friend. When she did home catering, I would take my golf cart about the equivalent of one hole and go in her back door. I would make her a gin and tonic and I would have a vodka and tonic. Well, the first one tasted so good, we would have another. By the time, I brought dinner home for me and Rick needless to say, it was no longer hot, but still delicious. I will miss her forever!!! Big hugs to her family and friends. We lost a good one! Love, Joyce

We are very sorry to hear this Ann, and we feel lucky that we were able to meet and spend time your mom in both Wisconsin and Oregon. She definitely had fire in her eyes! She raised two amazing kids and I would feel so, so fortunate if my kids turned out like you and Pete. Hers seems like it was a life well-lived, so a toast from afar for your mom.

She was always very friendly and easy to be around.

My deepest condolences.

We enjoyed chatting with Susan during flag football games. She was always in high spirits and would say hello to anyone. It was clear she loved her family and supported her grandchildren very much.

My favorite memories were together with our whole family baking cookies, bread, or entire meals for everyone. Aunt Susan knew that if there was one thing that could bring everyone together, it was food. I´m going to miss her and our times in the kitchen so much.
