Obituary for Susan Marie Mervin

March 5, 1966 - October 20, 2024

Susan Marie Mervin, aged 58, of Bristol, Louisiana, passed away on October 20, 2024. Born on March 5, 1966, to Lou and Jack Porter, Susan was a beloved member of her community, known for her warmth, resilience, and unwavering spirit.

Susan is survived by her husband, James Mervin; her sons, Jacob and C.J. Mervin; daughter-in-law Kristina Mervin; and her cherished grandchildren, Jude and Alice Mervin. She is also survived by her siblings, Chuck, Julius, and Carey Porter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia Porter.

Throughout her life, Susan exemplified hard work and dedication, balancing various roles in her career while making significant contributions to the Diocese of Lafayette and St. Ignatius Elementary. Her baking skills were legendary, with her homemade treats becoming a holiday staple for many in Grand Coteau.

A pillar in her community, Susan volunteered with the Pie Chicks, raising funds for the school, and was deeply respected by all who knew her. To her husband, James, she was not only a loving wife but also a best friend who shared countless adventures on the road with their children. To her sons, she was a devoted mother who always prioritized their well-being, even when it meant making tough decisions.

Susan's spirit was reflected in her vibrant personality and fearless approach to life. She embraced every challenge, from homeschooling while traveling across the country to launching her own transportation business. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she made every effort to be present in their lives, no matter the distance.

In accordance with her wishes, no formal memorial services will be held; close family will gather to celebrate her life privately.

Susan's memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her laughter, kindness, and zest for life will remain in our hearts forever.

I will always remember her infectious laugh and kind spirit. To speak to her kind spirit, I remember in high-school I needed many food items baked for a softball fundraiser. Aunt Susan made all of the items without wanting anything in return.

My favorite memories are of us all at Aunt Ellen's house for Christmas, gathered around the tree, opening gifts. Her desserts were a highlight of the gatherings, especially the coconut bonbons!

Aunt Susan will be very deeply missed by everyone who loved her. I am praying for all of our family, but especially those closest to her. Rest in peace sweet Aunt Sue

The first memory that comes to mind when I think of Susan is when we all gathered for the holidays she´d made her own homemade eggnog! I remember that being the first time i´d ever had it and it was delicious!!! Now every time the holidays come back around I always think about the yummy eggnog she made that made me fall in love with it. I hope to see you in heaven one day

To the Porter family my deepest sympathy. There is no greater love like the love of a mother. The time I was around Susan. She was a joy to be around. May the Lord grant the family, peace, and comfort at this time. Lori have your arms wrapped around at this time of their sorrow. Lord bless and keep you in Jesus name amen.
