Susan Milligan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2025.
Susan Ellen Milligan, of Norfolk, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on August 2, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Norwood, MA, in March 1946, she was the daughter of the late William J. Ashe and Alice M. (Murray) Ashe.

A lifelong educator, Susan graduated from King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham and earned her bachelor's degree from Curry College. She went on to dedicate over 35 years as a special education teacher, bringing unwavering compassion and sharp intelligence to her work, and advocating fiercely for every child in her care.

Irish to the core, Susan had a true New England sense of humor, a strong feminist spirit, and a love for birds, hydrangeas, and a good happy hour. Her happiest times were spent surrounded by family-especially during cherished summer days in Dennisport with her children and grandchildren.

Susan was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Timothy (Tim) Milligan; her parents; and her brother, William Ashe. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David R. Milligan; her daughter, Kate A. Milligan-Cormier, and her spouse, Heidi Cormier; and her beloved grandchildren, Emma C. Milligan, Abby B. Milligan, and Levi Timothy Cormier. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Marian Kennedy.

Details for a celebration of life will be shared at a later date.

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields. And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

David, Kate and family, we are deeply sorry for your loss of Susan. She was a special person and has touched countless lives. Our memories are both of Dennisport and Boynton Beach living in the same communities. We played endless card games with David and Susan and shared countless dinners together. I have a fond memory to remember Susan of. Helping her move into your last home in Boynton Beach, I cut my left hand on a glass I was putting away. Every time I see the scar, I smile and think of her. We have many memories I will always cherish. Our deepest sympathies, Phyllis and Jim Nault

David, Kate, Levi and Heidi. We share your profound sadness and are grieving the loss of such a wonderful soul. I can still hear Susan´s laughter and her comments that started with "Mother of God...". We shared so many wonderful summers on the Cape and many a bottle of pink wine. Losing our Jamen and then your Tim bonded us in sorrow. Susan was one of a kind. She is with the boys in the great beyond but we will miss her laugh and wicked sense of humor.
