Susan North Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 4, 2025.
Susan Elizabeth North, 89, passed away on March 15, 2025, in Fairfax, Virginia.

Born on August 20, 1935, in New Haven, Connecticut, Sue lived a life filled with art, intelligence, generosity, and an unmistakable sense of humor. She was known for her strong opinions and wry wit-qualities that made her both a formidable presence and a cherished companion to those who knew her.

Sue built a successful career as an executive assistant to the CEO at Garfinckel's, where her sharp intellect and organizational skills were invaluable. Beyond her professional achievements, she devoted much of her time to volunteering at Alexandria Hospital and the Kennedy Center for the Arts for the Washington National Opera. Her love for opera extended beyond service-she was a passionate patron who found immense joy in the art form and traveled often perusing it.

Her interests were as varied as they were enriching. A talented quilter, she created intricate pieces that reflected her creativity and attention to detail. She was an avid tennis fan who followed the sport with enthusiasm. Susan also had a deep appreciation for fine dining and travel, always eager to explore new places and experiences-with a very dry martini in hand.

Those who knew Sue will remember her sharp mind, generous spirit, and unwavering sense of humor. May her memory bring comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

I treasure the long-distance friendship which I had with Sue. She was truly a very special person. I wish that I could share another evening of martinis, dinner, and opera with her. Godspeed, dear friend.
