Susan Petersen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2025.
Susan Ann Petersen, Age 70, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away on August 16, 2025.

Born on June 7, 1955, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Susan was baptized Catholic and attended Catholic school during her early years. As she grew older, her faith evolved into a broader Christian belief that reflected her open heart and compassionate nature.

Susan devoted much of her life to caring for others. She worked for many years at West Hills Village Nursing Home, offering comfort and support to countless individuals. Later, she continued her calling through home health care, forming meaningful connections with those she assisted. In the last decade of her life, she found a second family among coworkers and customers at Boyd's Drug Mart.

Family was the cornerstone of Susan's life. She is survived by her daughter Betsy Petersen; son Andrew Petersen; and three cherished grandsons: Zachary Petersen, Anivar Villalpando, and Finley Fox. Her bond with Finley held a special place in her heart and brought her immense joy.

She is also survived by her sisters Kim Graff and Jody Langley (and husband Ken Langley); brother Christian Petersen (and wife Gena Petersen); as well as seven nieces and two nephews who were dear to her.

Susan was preceded in death by her father Richard Petersen; mother Lynne Danielle Lemieux; and brother-in-law Alan Graff.

Known for her vibrant spirit and flair for fashion, Susan loved second-hand shopping and had a gift for discovering hidden treasures while thrifting. Her creativity shone through in every outfit she styled. She maintained lifelong friendships from high school onward-testament to her loyalty and warmth. In recent years, the deep friendship between Susan and Betsy became a treasured source of joy for them both.

Susan will be remembered for the love she shared so freely and the light she brought into the lives of others.
