Susan Pope Pool (Shoosha), 80, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on Friday, October 15th, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. Susan was born in 1940 in Lubbock, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pope Pool. Susan spent much of her childhood in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Susan obtained her associates degree of Fine Arts in Music from Columbia College in Missouri and attended Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Texas. She met her future husband, Fred Woodward Hannes, at SMU and they married in 1963. Together they had two sons, Fred Woodward "Bud" Hannes, Jr. and John Pope Hannes and settled in Giddings, Texas.
After living in Giddings, Texas for several years; Susan moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1975 where she quickly became part of the community. Susan was a member of the Episcopal Church, a volunteer for the Folk-Art Museum, served on the board of the Santa Fe Symphony and supported the Santa Fe Opera.
At a young age, Susan discovered both a passion and talent for piano and this love of music was wound into the fabric of her life until her death. She was a gifted pianist who loved sharing her musical talent with others. She was equally passionate about traveling and learning about the world we live in. She traveled the world with her grandmother, mother, sister and dear friend Penn Strode, carefully researching each destination prior to travel. Susan also loved art and surrounded herself with artistic finds from Santa Fe and from every location she visited.
Susan was a generous and giving person, supporting numerous charities and quietly helping others in need. She never asked for recognition or accolades but gave from the heart.
Susan is survived by her son, Bud Hannes and daughter-in-law Shelley, son John Hannes; grandson Nicholas Hannes and wife Hannah, grandson Kenneth Hannes and wife Kelsey, grandson Andrew Hannes and wife Melissa; great-grandsons Oliver, Ely and Caden. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Louise Pool and her cherished niece Alexandra.
Susan lived a full life, embracing all the joys and facing all the challenges it offered. Our 'Shoosha', as she was known by her grandkids, is loved dearly and will be missed.
