Susan (Sue) Cibula Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 17 to Jul. 19, 2022.
Susan (Sue) Elizabeth Hellerman Cibula passed away on July 17th after a tough few months battling cancer. Sue was the loving wife of her childhood sweetheart, Henry J. Cibula Jr. for 59 years; the sweet sister of Karil (Gary) Israel; the caring mother to John (Wendy) Cibula, Pam (Ken) McCrory, and Barry Cibula; the cherished "Mimi" of Marguerite McCrory, Grace Cibula, Joseph Cibula, Julia Cibula, and Ryley Cibula.

Sue lived in the Franklin Park area for over 50 years. She was best known for owning the Franklin Inn from 1978-2000 with her husband, Henry. Sue managed every aspect of the restaurant from personally greeting customers to crafting new recipes to making sure the books were in order. She worked 60 hour weeks, while also being devoted to her family. In 2000, she sold the restaurant to her son, John, and his family, as she left to care for her husband Henry, who had suffered from a stroke. Everyone who knew her saw that although she had a reserved demeanor, she was the kindest woman. She would do anything for her family and community.

In her free time, Sue loved to cook, read, watch cheesy Hallmark movies, and spend time outside in her garden. She made the best chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cakes every year for her children's and grandchildren's birthdays. She and Henry had many travels throughout the years to Mexico, Spain, Cat Cay, and beyond. She loved finding recipe inspiration through her adventures.

She was a force to be reckoned with and she will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.

A memorial service in her honor will be held at Heritage Presbyterian Church, located at2262 Rochester Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, on Wednesday, July 20th at 11 a.m. The family requests that attendees wear something with yellow, as it was Sue's favorite color.

I remember Sue as a wonderful customer of my GNC store in Pine Creek Shopping Center. She was a joy to serve! Praying for the family.

From the first time we visited the Franklin Inn in about 1980 we were impressed with Sue's care and attention to the customers and detail. Two years later it was the first outing with our newborn daughter. When our daughter and the grand kids are in town it is the one place they always want to go. We will always remember Sue's great kindness and new recipes.

Sue was the first boss I ever had. And to this day, the best. She was an amazing person with amazing vision. She will be deeply missed.

I was so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. As a friend of Sue's sister in law Noreen Cibula, I would often attend family gatherings at Sue's house with my friend Noreen. Sue's love and care for her family was evident throughout every corner of the house. Sue was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess to all. Our group of friends visited the Franklin Inn regularly where Sue showed such great culinary skill and expertise. Sue truly epitomized the essence of an all around great woman. She could just "do it all", and "do it all so very well"! I know her passing will leave a huge hole in the family. I send my sincere condolences to Henry, Pam, John, Barry, the grandchildren, and all other family and friends.
