Susan “Sue” Kay Leitner passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 2:22am due to a short and unexpected illness, she was only 64. Sue was born in La Crosse, WI on December 1, 1958 to parents Ronald and Darlene (Krenz) Kerrigan. Sue grew up in La Crescent, MN where she graduated high school. She married the love of her life, Allan (Al) Leitner on January 20, 1979, they had just celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
One of Sue’s greatest blessings in life was her family. She loved being a grandma and was so proud to share stories of her kids and grandkids. She also looked forward to family game night where they would have a meal and then gather to shake dice and play cards while yelling at “Alexa” to play songs. Pontoon and Picture were two of her favorites and always seemed to make the playlist.
Sue aimed to make people smile, whether she was planning a family celebration or baking treats to share. Her last gift of love to her friends and family were some heart shaped Valentine’s Day cookies - if you’ve had her treats, you know that’s a treasure that will be dearly missed. When Sue asked if you wanted to go on a “road trip”, that was code for visiting a local casino to try her luck. She loved to make those bells ring.
When at home, Sue often had QVC on the TV, QVC’s phone number seemed to be on speed dial and UPS and FedEx knew her on their route.
Survived by her loving husband Al Leitner, mother Darlene Kerrigan (Krenz), brothers David (Patty) Kerrigan, Kevin Kerrigan (Janet Wuensch) and children Jennifer (Anthony) Jones, and Christopher Leitner. Mother-in-Law, Donna Leitner (Grotjahn) and Brother-in-Law, Gary (Holly) Leitner. Grandchildren Caleb Minor, Taylor Jones and Lyrik Jones. Nieces, nephews and great niece along with endless other special friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her father Ronald Kerrigan, father-in-law, Ervin (Gale) Leitner, paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and great aunt.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse with burial to follow in the Crucifixion Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
