Susan Ward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2013.
Susan Lynn (Stewart) Ward, 68, died at Seasons Hospice Saturday, Oct, 26, 2013, of metastatic melanoma.

She was born in Spokane, Wash., on June 11, 1945, and grew up in Peru and Mexico, though she also lived in France and England. She had a great love of travel and visited 49 states and at least 38 countries during her lifetime. She attended Dominican Convent Upper School in San Rafael, Calif., and got her B.A. in international relations from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Susan married Wayne Ward in July 1968. She was fortunate to be a "stay at home mom" while her children were growing up.

Her volunteer activities included tutoring in schools and being on the Parent Advisory Boards of the American School in London and Totino Grace High School. She was also a merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts, a campaign manager and political party officer and an interpretive guide at the Science Museum of Minnesota. She was a public board member on the MN Board of Nursing, the MN Board of Psychology, the American Board of Nursing Specialties, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Susan had a variety of jobs, including executive secretary to the Lt. Governor of Minnesota, executive aide to the director/account officer at the Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance, government affairs specialist at Travelers Express, as well as administrative assistant in a number of places, most recently at Pax Christi Church Youth Ministry.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne D. Ward; her sons, Chadwick Ward (Minnesota) and Christopher (Christine) Ward (California); grandchildren, Genevieve Elise, Madelyn Deidra and Adam; sister, Gail Pace (California) and brother, William Stewart (California): as well as nieces and nephews.

Her body has been donated to Mayo Clinic Department of Anatomy.

A memorial service will be held for her at Pax Christi Church in Rochester on Saturday, Nov. 2, at noon, with a gathering of family and friends an hour before the service, and a luncheon following.

Memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society, the Epilepsy Foundation or the charity of donor's choice.

Next door neighbors of five years, friends for over 30 years. We absolutely adored her and had oh so much fun together! It was an honor to fullfill her request of placing a stone at Cruz de Ferro, Spain on her behalf. Warmest personal regards to Wayne, Chad, Kit and families!
Blessings,
