Leslie Jastad Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 12 to Apr. 24, 2009.

Leslie Jo Jastad

The angels led Leslie to paradise on March 31, 2009 after a very short but courageous battle with cancer. Leslie was born July 31, 1952 in Longview, WA to Robert O. and Betty J. Jastad. Both parents preceded her in death.
Leslie grew up in Eugene, OR and Snohomish, WA. She graduated from Snohomish High School in 1970. She worked for The Bon, Everett Steel, Calico Corners, and most recently, The Everett Clinic.
Leslie was a loving and dedicated mother, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Our hearts ache over her passing but peace is found when we remember that she is no longer in pain. No doubt that she is probably living in her dream cottage, surrounded by luxurious fabrics and furnishings from Calico Corners, and cooking up something with LOTS of garlic!
Leslie is survived by her husband, Charles A. Griffis III, of Lake Stevens, WA; daughters, Aubrey (Dann) Schaefer, of Snohomish, Chelsea (Anatoliy) Griffis, and Josienne Griffis, of Lake Stevens; twin sister, Linda (Duane) Jastad, of Wenatchee, WA; sister, Laura (Bob) Schwinler, of Everett; sister, Jessica Jastad, of Helena, CA; brother, Robert Jastad, of Bellingham, WA; brother-in-law, Shane (Jenny) Griffis, of Vancouver, WA; mother-in-law, Bonnie (Paul) Harmon, of Yakima, WA; nieces, Tawnya (Marcus) Hubbard and Jordan (Brant) Schwinler, both of Everett; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many wonderful friends too numerous to count.
Last but not least, Leslie will be especially missed by her one and only adoring grandchild, Lochlan W. Schaefer, whose birth she witnessed just three and a half short years ago and who brought her such joy and countless smiles in that short time. "Miss you Gamma!"
The family wishes to thank the caring doctors, nurses and other staff of Providence Everett Medical Center- Colby Campus and Central Washington Hospital -Wenatchee for their care of Leslie over the past three months.
A gathering to celebrate Leslie's life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday April 25, 2009, at Legion Hall, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett WA. Please feel free to bring a favorite food dish to share.

I'm always thinking of you and hoping that you are out & about perusing new home decor designs. Hard to believe that you have been gone for seven years and hope you know that you've been missed every day during that time. You're in my heart and will always be with me - Love you, Linda

Missing you so much...one of my favorite memories of you was just calling you on the phone. You could pack so much into, "Hi Laura."

You made me feel like I made your day just by calling you.

You gave so much to me in your life on earth, and that is why I am still missing you every single day.

Thank you so much for always being there for me.

Love you so much,

Sister Laura

Happy Birthday Mom & Gramma! Today I reminded Lochlan of your birthday and he colored you the most beautiful picture...you are riding on a big green tractor by a huge red barn, with fluffy pink clouds in the sky & a flower in your hair.

My womb buddy, best sissy, best friend and best 1/2 - you are never out of my thoughts. I walked with you this evening in memories of our last walk up the hill together. Your daughters are shining examples of your love and secret nature. Always beside you,

Thank you, Tawnya and Marcus, for keeping this Guest Book online forever.

Leslie, Josie stayed with me for about 6 weeks, and she is such a doll.
Thank you so much for leaving such a loving young woman to love and cherish.

I feel like you are very close whenever I am around Josie. Your love for her just pours out around everyone she is in contact with.

Josie is such a fine young woman, I feel put to shame if I feel sorry for myself. Josie is the best person to be around when you need a hug.

Chelsea is so busy, it's hard to catch up with her. I know my time will come to spend time with her, but right now she is working hard; you would be so proud of her.

I wish I could see Aubrey more...she is a beautiful, strong woman, and you shine in her every day. What a good mom you were to all of your daughters.

Leslie, no one can ever take your place and you will live in my heart forever. I feel you walking beside me whenever I need a friend. What would Leslie do? The right thing, even if it is the hard thing to do.

I pray to God to help me do the right thing and live a purposeful life. I gain strength whenever I think about you and the legacy you left for my daughters. They love you greatly. You were always there for them. Thank you for all your teachings and most of all, for all your love.

Love you more,
Laura

Sweet Sis,

It's hard to believe that it's been one year since our last visit. You were and always will be my "better" half. I carry you with me in my heart and I keep your memories alive through your fabric collection.

I completed the blue quilt for Josie, will finish Chelsea's today and bound Dad's quilt for Lochlan. Your creations are so beautiful and such a reflection of your love - thank you for the privilege of sharing your creations.

Duane and I were married on February 20th and know that you share in our happiness. He is a "keeper" and won your heart as well as mine.

We're going to see "Cats" tomorrow evening and "Memories" will be of you. Know that my love for you is everlasting.

Linda

Leslie,

I am grateful you are not in pain; you are free at last. I think of you every day and seem to miss you more all the time.

Linda wins the "Sister of the Year" award. Thank goodness that you are a twin, and I have Linda to love, have fun with, look to for advice, and just to have a lovely sister standing beside me. She is a peach.

I am going over in September to visit Linda; I will give her an extra hug just from you.

Love you more,

Laura

Thank you for your outpouring of love and memories of Leslie. As my "better" half, she will live in my heart forever. Her pain was horrific and it was such a blessing to see her comfortable and painfree. Thank you to all who attended her celebration of life - it was great meeting many coworkers and renewing friendships. Les wrote me a letter years ago of our special memories and that letter went missing at Leslie's celebration - if you find it in your belongings, please contact me.

Dear Leslie's family,
I had the pleasure of working with Leslie at The Everett Clinic, we were always so happy to see her bright smile when she would work with us! Our friendship was short, but I will forever keep her in my heart, she touched so many lives in her short time...I only wish I had more time with her...she will never be forgotten! Leslie is no longer in pain, and that is a comfort.

I am very lucky to have gotten to know your family through the last 12 years. Leslie was like a second mom to me for many years. I knew I could always tell her things and that she would be accepting of it. She had a positive attitude that radiated to everyone around her, she was an amazing person.

I will miss her deeply,

Deepest condolences to you in your sorrow of losing Leslie. I remember her from SHS memories...her warm mannerisms and infectious smile. Hard to believe yet another of "ours" is gone. So sad to have one more from our era pass on. A life we grieve...too young to leave. Rest in God's peace, Leslie.

I loved how Leslie laughed at all my jokes, even when they weren't so funny. She was a treat to work with and always had something funny to say. I always enjoyed when she talk about her daughter, giving me things to look forward too when my little grows up. I am going to miss you Leslie.

Leslie, I want to thank you for teaching me that life is short and everyone should do what makes them happy everyday, that is how I live my life now. I met Leslie one year ago, here at The Everett Clinic, and I feel blessed to have had her in my life for that short time. She had a way of making you feel special when you spoke with her. She truly cared deeply for everyone who was fortunate to meet her. Leslie we miss you so much everyday and we know you are keeping an eye on things here at work. You brightened my day everytime I saw you, thank you for that.

Leslie Jo,

I will never forget the day you came into my office for your interview with me. We ended up talking for more than two hours about your jobs prior to The Everett Clinic (especially Calico Corner), stories about our siblings and our growing up years, your husband, daughters and of course your beautiful grandson. I knew immediately that you were a special lady and I am forever grateful I had the privilege of meeting you that day and working with you from that point on, if even for a short time. I will always treasure the visit in your hospital room with you, Laura, me and my sister and how fun it was to make you laugh till you cried with all the crazy antics stories my sister and I were sharing with you two. The beautiful sound of your laughter that day replays in my mind often and every time it brings a sad but warm feeling to me, as those were precious moments that I was able to share with you before you were gone from us forever. We lost a beautiful ray of sunshine when we lost you Leslie Jo and a piece of my heart goes with you. May you be at peace now and forever beautiful Lady!

It was pure joy to have met and worked with Leslie at the Everett Clinic. She was a "float" so her presence was intermittant. I can sincerely say she was a wonderful, warm, lovely lady. She not only worked her best, but looked her best. I always had to compliment her on her shoes. she was always put together. I know that she definitely impacted those she encountered and she will truly be missed We know she is out of pain, and suffering no more. God has brought her to rest and to peace.
May we all desire to be more like Leslie

Wow! I only met Leslie one time on a visit with my sister, Brenda, to the hospital to see Leslie. My life was touched from the moment she smiled at me and welcomed me in to her hospital room to visit. It was Leslie and her sister and Me and my sister all sitting together in that room laughing and telling stories of all the things "us sisters" had done with each other through the years. The room rang with laughter and good times and my life became just a little brighter that day getting to know Leslie. If I only met her one time and felt the joy that she could bring to another human being, than I can imagine the people who really had time to know her and how she must have touched your lives. To her family and friends, I offer you my condulence, and to Leslie.....Have a safe journey home.

Leslie always had a way of bringing joy into our lives at The Everett Clinic. Her smile and joyous attitude were infectious. If you were scheduled to work along side Leslie, it made you look forward to your day at work. Any time I saw her or spoke with her I walked away from the encounter feeling a smile spread across my face. I am so sorry she has passed and I will miss her so very much.

I too worked with Leslie at the clinic. From the first day I met her we seemed to bond. She was a friend to everyone and truly lived her faith. I only wish I would have known she was ill so I could have talked with her one last time. She truly was an inspiration to me with her positive attitude and fabulous smile!

I am sorry to hear of her passing. I was one of Josie's teachers for two years and enjoyed communicating with Leslie. She was also there for me when I was pregnant with my second child and nervous to have a C-section. God placed her that day in the office when I was scared out of my mind and Leslie was kind to talk me through the procedure and give me reassurance. My thoughts are with the family.

Linda, Laura, Chuck, Aubrey, Chelsea, Josie, and all of your wonderful family,

My eyes are welling up, yet I am so grateful to of been blessed with having Leslie in my life. So many fun times we had. She now knows what's "up" and I see her with a smile on her face and sparkle in her eyes. She isn't here, yet she is, and always will be in spirit and in our hearts and in our memories. May you all feel peace and have joy in your hearts because of all she was when she was with us. You are all continually in my prayers and thoughts, and I love you

Dear Jessica,

I am so sorry to hear of Leslie's passing. I'll never forget the great/fun times with you and your sisters back in school.
May God smile softly on you and your entire family.
I miss you.

April 12, 2009

I worked with Leslie at the Everett Clinic for just a short time, but my sense of kinship with her felt strong from the first time we met. Her job was to fill in for workers who were ill or on vacation so seeing her was always a wonderful surprise. We would continue our rapport as though no time had gone by. We talked about our grandchildren--she gave me ideas of fun, local things she'd done with Lachlan. We talked about our kids--she LOVED her three girls, of course and we talked about how different each child could be. She wore cool jewelry she got at Girls Night Out--EVERYTHING about Leslie was cool! We were always planning to go for a walk on the Centennial Trail when the weather improved. We had so many things in common--we'd only just met but it seemed we were friends forever. I miss Leslie--I wish I'd had more time with her--although I realize I"m lucky I DID meet and know her--her time with us was too short--I know I'm one of many who is full of sadness and full of missing Leslie--it feels too soon to say goodbye

Linda and the Jastad family, I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Leslie Jo. I haven't seen her for a few years but I often think of our junior, high school years and the memories of you two are the best. We had such good times and I shall always remember Leslie's great sense of humor and kindness. My thoughts are with you.
