Sally Nugent Hintzen

Sally Hintzen passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at her home near Onalaska, Wash., after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Hintzen graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Neb., with a journalism/English degree and pursued a career in magazine and book publishing, working in Chicago, New York City and Los Angeles. She was an accomplished watercolorist, with her work displayed in several galleries, and she competed in shows as far away as Montana and California. Her courage in the face of this devastating disease was incredible. She was and will continue to be an inspiration to her family members and her many friends across the country. Originally from Louisiana, she moved to Washington in 1993 with her husband, Martin Hintzen, U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel (retired), who survives. Other survivors include her brother, Jim Nugent, Imperial Beach, Calif., and many relatives in central Louisiana. She will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., with services at 9 a.m. Thursday. Arrangements are being handled by Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary Inc., Centralia, Wash.
