Suzanne Greenberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 13 to Mar. 15, 2024.
Newport Beach - Suzanne Greenberg passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Born in Los Angeles in 1939 to Miriam Klein Blau and Dexter Blau, Suzanne was raised in Palm Springs, CA, where the family moved in 1942. After attending San Jose State University, Suzanne lived in Los Angeles with her brother. In 1960, Suzanne met the love of her life, Howard Allan Greenberg, and they were married in December of that year. She is survived by her children, Marc L. Greenberg (spouse Marta Pirnat-Greenberg) of Lawrence, KS, their children Benjamin (Madison, WI) and Lea (spouse Leendert van der Miesen) (Rome, Italy); and Phillip J. Greenberg (spouse Jada Ma-Greenberg) of Newport Beach, CA, and their children Tasha Greenberg (spouse Derek Jimenez) (Fullerton, CA) and Taryn Greenberg (fiancé Erik Ben Davis) (Oceanside, CA). She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in 2016, and her brother, Leland Roy Blau, in 1960.

Suzanne and Howard started their family in the Park LaBrea neighborhood of Los Angeles in the early 1960s, when their sons were born. They moved to Whittier in 1964, living there until 1968 and then subsequently in West Los Angeles (1968-75), Pacific Palisades (1975-84), and Culver City (1984-90). Suzanne worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Howard's furniture store after her children became teenagers and later worked for Santa Monica Bank for several years. She and Howard retired to Palm Desert in 1990, where they moved to be closer to her parents, and she pursued painting semi-professionally. Suzanne later moved to Huntington Beach, CA in 2019 and Newport Beach, CA in 2020.

As a child, Suzanne was a talented drawer and painter. She continued developing her painting skills throughout her life, first working in oils and acrylics, and later in watercolors. Her work was featured in local and national watercolor magazines, and in galleries in Palm Desert and other Southern California locales. She won many prizes at art shows throughout the western United States. Active in the Coachella Valley Watercolor Society (two years as president), she taught watercolor painting classes in her home studio until about 2015.

She was especially proud of her children, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and their partners, and enjoyed their visits.

Pursuant to Suzanne's wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, she wished to be remembered with donations to your favorite charity, or the Coachella Valley Watercolor Society.
