Suzanne K. Griggs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 11, 2025.
Suzanne Kiser Griggs of Richardson, Texas passed away May 10, 2025, from breast cancer in her home surrounded by her family and friends. Suzanne was born March 4, 1944, in Portsmouth Virginia, the only child of Fred Sylvanis and Gladys Martha Williams Kiser. She grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina moving to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1962, before establishing her life in Dallas.

Suzanne was a longstanding member of the family law community in Dallas, working as a paralegal for over 60 years. She dedicated 25 years to greyhound rescue and was the founder and President of Texas Adopt a Greyhound Society (TAGS). Over those years Suzanne adopted and cared for 14 greyhounds of her own and opened her home to 213 more greyhounds through TAGS. Suzanne enjoyed travelling the world with her friends and family, gardening, spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and her many greyhounds. Suzanne lived her life with conviction and a giving spirit. A true demonstration of strength, kindness and acceptance.

Suzanne is survived by her two daughters, Brianna Griggs Norton of Atlanta, Georgia and Alyssa Griggs Martin of Dallas, Texas. And her five grandchildren Eryn Kelsey Norton of New York, New York; Nicole Keely (Norton) Watson of Austin, Texas; Julia Norton of New York, New York; William Jerrett Martin of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Audrey Claire Martin of New York, New York, who all share her tenacious and loving spirit. She also has a large extended family who all looked to Suzanne as a mother figure and role model.

For those who wish to send something in her memory, in lieu of flowers, Suzanne's wish is to support greyhound rescue through donations to:

- Greyhounds Unlimited: https://greyhoundsunlimited.org/

- Hounds of the Heartland: https://www.greyhoundpetsok.org/

- GPA Houston: https://www.gpahouston.org/donate

Though Suzanne and I worked in different departments at GPD, I learned so much from her. Such a sassy gal and Greyhound lover! She will be so missed.

Worked with Suzanne for several years at GPD before her retirement. I also dog sat for Suzanne when she would travel and fell in love with greyhounds. Heaven gained a true angel. Suzanne will surely be missed.

As a colleague of Alyssa´s, I didn´t have the honor of knowing her beloved mother personally, but I have witnessed the strength, love, and values she passed on through Alyssa. Her legacy lives on in the remarkable woman Alyssa is. Wishing the family peace and strength during this time of sorrow.
