Kenneth Icenhour Obituary

Kenneth Herbert Icenhour, 80, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, at the College Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on Oct. 19, 1928, in Alexander County, to the late Dewey Roosevelt Sr. and Pauline Little Icenhour. Kenneth was self-employed and owned and operated the Piedmont Cleaners and Laundry in Lenoir prior to his retirement. He also operated Ferree Cleaners in Morganton, post-retirement. He was Presbyterian by faith and a member and past elder of the United Presbyterian Church. He was an U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and a member of the Shriners Oasis Temple. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Gilda Moody Icenhour; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg D. and Margaret Icenhour of Matthews and Erik Kenneth Icenhour of Chicago, Ill.; one daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Daniel McGuire of Lenoir; one brother and sister-in-law, Dewey R. Icenhour Jr. and Sylvia of Lenoir; four grandchildren, Laura A. Icenhour of Matthews, Greg K. Icenhour of Matthews, Trevor D. McGuire of Lenoir and Tyler D. McGuire of Lenoir; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Zack Icenhour, Hillis Icenhour and Tim Icenhour. The family will receive friends at the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service from 3 to 5 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607-1460. I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy in your time of great sorrow. Only those who have lost a loved one can know the depth of your feelings. I have experienced the death of my parents, a child and my grandparents. I know how difficult these times can be for those left behind.
