Sydelle S. Cohen

Sydelle S. Cohen (Singer), 92, passed away on March 20 at Brookhaven at Lexington, MA. Before moving to Brookhaven, Sydelle was a long-time resident of Andover and previously of Haverhill.

Sydelle graduated from Brookline High School and Vassar College, and received a master's degree in art history at Radcliffe College and a master's degree in library science from Simmons College. She worked as a reference librarian at Andover Memorial Library for more than 20 years. Before that, she taught art history at Bradford College.

Sydelle was the beloved wife of Jason S. Cohen, an attorney in Haverhill, MA. They were a devoted couple for 64 years until Jason's death in 2013. Sydelle is survived by her children Susan Cohen of Natick; Nancy Cohen and her husband John Slote of Lenox; and David Cohen and his wife Andrea Furey of Croton-on-Hudson, NY. She was the loving grandmother of Paul and Daniel Tyson; Miranda Cohen and Sophia and Frances Slote; and Alice and Jonathan Cohen.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 11 am at Temple Israel Cemetery at 492 North Avenue in Wakefield, MA. The family will receive visitors on March 23 from 5-8 pm at the CE House at Wellesley College, 106 Central Street, Wellesley, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Civil Liberties Union.
