Hyacinthe, Esq., Sylvere Marie

Sylvere Marie Hyacinthe, Esq. passed away on May 3, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 11, 1958, the eldest child of Hector Marc Hyacinthe and Phyllis Corsbie Hyacinthe. She was the beloved sister of her three brothers, Maurice, Marcus and Llewelyn and sister, Genevieve.

Sylvere attended St Joseph's School in Bronxville and The School of the Holy Child in Rye, where she served as both president of the student council and as salutatorian of her class. She attended Princeton University where she earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in English in 1980. She earned her Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 1983, later returning to Columbia for her Masters Degree in Public Health.

Her legal career started at IBM in Armonk and she went on to the law firms Bower and Gardner, of New York City, and later, Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, of White Plains, achieving partner at both. She was a successful trial lawyer in medical malpractice litigation.

Sylvere served on the Board of Directors of the Legal Services of the Hudson Valley and the Board of Trustees of the School of the Holy Child where, in 2003, she delivered the keynote address at the graduation of her niece Kimberly. She was also an active volunteer at My Sisters' Place in White Plains.

Sylvere leaves behind her three brothers and sister, her nieces and nephews Alexander, Kimberly, Christian, Kenneth, Alyssa and Eric, and her sisters-in-law Cassandra and Monica.

Sylvere is remembered by all for her compassion in helping others and for her great sense of humor.

Sylvere was a Classmate at Princeton and a partner of mine at Wilson Elser. We often shared laughs together at our firm annual Partner Meetings (we were in different offices NJ & Westchester) . Sylvere was respected and loved by all who knew her. I will always remember our camaraderie fondly.

I just found out. May God have mercy, this is just not right. With all of the stuff going on in the world, this just is an example of the need for prayer to all powerful but merciful God. I knew Sylvere from her days in New York City -- where I am, and hope that she is in a better place than we are, with all of the strife and hardship we all face every day.

Dearest Hyacinthe Family, As you look back on the past and recent events that surround Sylvere's life I want you to know that she was well loved. I was one of her classmates at Princeton and what I remember most about Sylvere are her open, friendly and loving nature. Dear Mrs. Hyacinthe and family...words don't accurately convey the depth of my sympathy. Sylvere was a rare light of joy, happiness and inspiration. How blessed we are to have known her. Losing a friend floods you with memories of things that made them a wonderful friend. My memories of you lead me back to our times on the track team, PIC and NYC. You were the first person I ever knew with an Infinite! I remember the Infinite so well because I had to help push it out of a snowy parking space, using cat liter!
You will be missed on earth, but I will look forward to our spirits being back together, in Heaven.
God has picked you, one of his children, to come home and give you peace.
Your friend,
Vietta

Sylvère, I join your family in prayer and feeling at this difficult moment, but I want them to know that you are positively remembered by many, including me. My first memory of you is of moving into 1915 Hall freshman year. I'm glad I got to see you at Reunions--was it at our 20th or 25th?--so well-dressed, every inch the corporate attorney! I am thankful that I was able to tell you that you had inspired one of the characters in the elementary French class I was teaching at that moment, a prosperous, glamorous woman named Sylvère. You will continue to inspire, dear classmate.

A wonderful mentor and friend--from our times in Jack & Jill, right on up to our practicing law in the same city. She was always a gentle adviser & friend. Love to you all, Lawrence Otis Graham
