Whenever Sylvia texted me, at the age of 94, to serve communion I just could never say no. She had a gentile but firm sway over people.

I have so many fond memories of Sylvia when she was in the thick of the arts community in Ames! An artist herself, but also a volunteer who supported and promoted the creative lives of so many. And such a special, lovely person! I kept in touch via letters for a number of years after she moved, but when a letter came back, I assumed she must have been in care and then I didn't know how to find her. I am happy that she was so close to her children and am sure you kept a watchful eye. God speed, Sylvia! (Look at that big smile in her picture!)

Drinking at the speakeasy in Antigua, although I didn´t really get to chat with her much. It was clear that she was living her life to the fullest. I´m so happy she was able to see Nicole and Mike´s lovely wedding and her memory will be cherished forever

Sylvia always seemed to handle her life´s challenges with steely strength and ALWAYS a wide smile. I have seen this admirable characteristic in her daughter and my dear friend, Polly. So Sylvia, you live on.
