Sylvia Naylor Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and The Province from Jul. 27 to Jul. 29, 2007.

NAYLOR _ Sylvia, born in New Westminster, September 3, 1910 passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital July 14, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, of 63 years in 2003. She is survived by her sister, Edna Mountain and her loving family: Dr. Craig Naylor (Carolyn), Brent (Gayle) and Wayne (Wendy); seven grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Candice (Shim Ching), Jodi, Erin Hay, Erin Smith, Susan (Kris Nelson), Adam Smith, and Chelsea as well as six great-grandchildren: Kaelen, Kira, Matthew, Tai, Koa, and Olive. Sylvia worked as an overseas operator and supervisor for B.C. Tel for many years starting right after high school and returning once her three boys were in school. She and Art were avid boaters and joined the RVYC in 1968. They travelled extensively in their retirement and all of the souvenirs they brought home Sylvia's stories, which she could recount with amazing detail and humour, were the best. Sylvia had a splendid presence. She was a stately woman with a keen mind and a sharp wit. She lived her life with dignity, graciousness, laughter and an uncompromising sense of right and wrong. We are all the richer for having known and loved her and for having been loved by her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Eileen Caughey and Cy Panganiban for their tremendous support and our appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at VGH for their care and kindness during Sylvia's last days there. A private service was held Friday for the family on the water off Kits Beach where Art & Sylvia had lived and raised their family for so many wonderful years.

I remember Great Aunt Sylvia as a smart, elegant woman. Growing up in Langley, I always thought she had an urban sophistication that we country folk lacked.

I am Lyal and Cully Penzer's daughter Lisa. I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I remember her always smiling, looking elegant and so very interesting to talk with.
