When Sylvia retired from UCCS, I wrote a note to her stating that I thought in my entire career she was one of two or three best educators that I had ever known. Even after I retired early due to health issues, Sylvia and I would meet half way for lunch in Castle Rock. She and Maury came to our home for dinner and the glorious "Lessons and Carols" Christmas concert at St. John's Cathedral. She also brought Baya to our home at Christmas to see our Christmas decorations. My favorite story of Sylvia was her description of a young black bear who lumbered down to her backyard during warm and sunny fall afternoons for a nap. Sylvia was a wonderful human being. It was my great pleasure to have been her colleague and friend.
