Symen Groeneveld Obituary
The last of his generation, Symen is predeceased by his wife Christina, grandson Michael and his 10 siblings. He is survived by his children: Symen (Joan), Willem "Bill" (Margaret), Gijsbert "Bert" (Irene), David (Connie), Robert (Donna), Howard (Lorinda) and Evelyn (Bill John) as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada and the Netherlands.
Symen worked for many years as a forklift driver at Alberni Pulp & Paper until his retirement, when he was finally able to focus his time and attention to his true passion, farming. He was always happiest working around the farm, either caring for his cows (whom he knew by name), riding around on the tractor or any of the other endless tasks that he so much enjoyed.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Knox Presbyterian Curch, 4850 Regina Ave, Port Alberni, BC with Reverend Laura Hargrove officiating. Cremation has taken place. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.chapelofmemories.ca. If desired, donations in Symen's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

I was very sad to hear of "grandpa's" passing. He was a wonderful man and truly a grandfather to me growing up...I have many fond memories on the farm as a child growing up. He will be missed. Condolences to the family.

Very sorry to the family for the loss of a wonderful man. I will miss seeing Mr Groeneveld at Bill and Ev's house on Christmas eve. I always enjoyed talking with him. Our Condolences, Pam (Chandler) Newton and Family.
