Takiko Hatanaka Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 13 to Jan. 15, 2010.
TAKIKO SUZUKI HATANAKA Surrounded by her family, Takiko passed away at peace on Saturday, January 9, 2010. Takiko died from the cumulative effects of a debilitating hereditary spinal condition. She fought a long and courageous battle. She was in her 80th year. She lived a full life; experiencing both great joy and great tragedy. Her frail body was in direct contrast to her extroverted personality and generous spirit. Beloved wife of Terumi, mother to Bill (Jan), Russell and Susan (Wayne). Devoted 'Bachan' to Bobby, Ryan-James, Abigail, Victoria and Taylor-Anne. Sister to Tomiko Arai. She is predeceased by her parents (Gennosuke and Isono), her sisters (Hatsune, Naka, Tamiko); her brothers (Tatsuro (Buck), Tsugio, Saburo, Hachiro, Jiro) and by Harry McLean. Friends and family are invited to call at Highland Funeral Home, 3280 Sheppard Avenue East (at Warden Ave.), in Scarborough, Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 15, 11 a.m. at this same location. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Takiko Hatanaka may be made to either The Toronto Rehab Foundation, Spinal Cord Rehab Program Lyndhurst Centre, 439 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M5G 2A2 or The T. Buck Suzuki Environmental Foundation, No. 100-326 12th Street, New Westminster, British Columbia V3M 4H6.

Bill, Russ, Susan and Terry, my deepest sympathies and condolences. She had a profound impact on all of us as we were growing up together and will sadly be missed. I'll always remembered her gentle spirit and kindness. She was one of our 'Moms' and will be with us always.
