Kathleen Dangerfield Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 22, 2010.
Naomi Kathleen Brown Dangerfield, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, and was welcomed into the presence of her blessed Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

"Kat" was born on September 17, 1931, in Panther, West Virginia, to John Edward Foy Brown and Corby Jane Lee Brown. Throughout her life, she took great pride in her country roots and deeply appreciated the strong moral values and work ethic instilled in her by her coal miner father and hard working mother. Following her graduation from Iaeger High School in 1949, Kat attended Concord College in Athens, WV. After earning her teaching certificate, she taught in several schools in McDowell County, WV.

Kathleen married Rans Edward "R.E." Dangerfield, Jr. on April 24, 1951. As a military wife, she accompanied her husband on his various assignments during his 20-year Navy career, including overseas assignments, first in the Azore Islands where she taught kindergarten in a DOD school and second in Naples, Italy. She was an active member of Burrows Memorial Baptist Church in Norfolk from 1967 to 1978 when she and R.E. relocated to Hampton and moved their membership to Foxhill Road Baptist Church. Kat was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed many hobbies, especially crochet, cross stitch and folk art painting. She derived tremendous pleasure in sharing her hobbies and talents with friends and loved ones until a stroke in 2001 severely limited her ability to work with her hands. She considered raising her two children to be her greatest achievement in life.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her beloved grandson Joshua Mower, her parents, brother Kyle Brown, sister Cleo Schaeffer and three nephews.

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 59 years, R.E. Dangerfield; son Michael Dangerfield, daughter-in-law Sandra and granddaughter Rachel of Chesapeake, VA; daughter Patricia Mower, son-in-law Mike and granddaughter Elizabeth of Charlotte, NC; and brother Paul Brown of Collinsville, VA.

Kathleen's husband and children will receive family and friends on Sunday, July 25, from 3 to 5 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A Celebration of her life will be held Monday morning, July 26, at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

No longer bound by the physical limitations brought on by strokes and illness, Kathleen now stands tall and walks with grace in eternity.

Dear Pat, Mike an Elizabeth,
You have Norma's and my sympathy. Losing a love one is always difficult, but knowing they are with the Lord means we will see them again. What a blessed thought.
Our prayers are with you.
Love in Christ,
Glenn an Norma Bouwkamp

I lost my 90 year old father in October, their passing never leaves your memory but the assurance of where they are sure brings peace. God bless you and so glad for the time you had with your mom before she went home. MaryBeth Draxler
