Ted Shapiro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2009.
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ted on Friday, February 20, 2009, in his eighty-eighth year. Predeceased by his first wife, Katie (Bubby) Shapiro, and survived by his second wife, Miriam Malkas. Cherished father of Richard (Gina Lennox) and Gerry (Peggy Gertsman). Adored "Gramps" of David, Sarah, Megan, and Tina Shapiro, and grandfather of the late Michael Shapiro and the late Neil Shapiro. Great-gramps of Lucca Yoselevitz and Joshua Shapiro. Dear brother of Ben (Toby), Henry (Jackie) and Peter Shapiro. Ted is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and by so many friends. The family would like to pay special tribute to the West Island Palliative Care Residence (www.wipcr.ca) that offered the kind of care that every human being deserves in departing this world. We would like to thank the phenomenal staff and volunteers at the residence for the incredible gentleness and love bestowed upon Ted and all the family members who benefited greatly from their kindness and caring. We will always be grateful that Dr. Nacia Faure and the many exceptional nurses were available for Ted throughout the time he spent at the West Island Palliative Care Residence. A special thanks to Teresa Dellar, Executive Director, who gives constant effort and energy to the residence, and who ensured that our father's entry and final goodbye was one of dignity and respect. We would especially like to thank Dr. Jeff Danson for his incredible encouragement and constant attentiveness to Ted during the past many years, to Dr. Stanley and Lynda Heislerfor their friendship and guidance, and to Agi and Paul Rupert for their ability to move mountains and for their compassion, concern and continuous years of friendship. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, February 22, at 11 a.m. Burial at the Kehal Israel Cemetery, Gan Shalom Section, Sources Blvd., D.D.O. Shiva private. In lieu of gifts or flowers, contributions in his memory to the "Neil Shapiro Scholarship Fund", Lower Canada College, (514) 482-3880, would be greatly appreciated. And, as Ted would say it best to all who knew him... "See you later!"
