Ted Skovgard Jr

Ted Skovgard Jr., age 74, of Basin, Wyoming, passed away at his home in Basin on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

Ted was born on November 16, 1942 at the old hospital in Basin, Wyoming to Ted Skovgard Sr. and Ruth (Godfrey) Skovgard. Ted was raised in Basin, Wyoming and graduated from Basin High School. Ted furthered his education at Casper College.

Ted married Sandra Saari on January 26, 1964 in Spearfish, South Dakota. They made their home in Basin, Wyoming. To this union were born five children: Janet, Jim, Joseph, Joan, and Ted III. Sandra was the love of Ted's life. The family believes that he died of a broken heart.

Ted enjoyed being outdoors in the Big Horn Mountains, hunting, and fishing. He loved farming, animals, cattle, sheep shearing, gardening and logging. He loved his job of logging for Cowboy Timber out of Manderson, Wyoming. Ted loved spending time with his family. He was a very talented mechanic and enjoyed woodworking. There was nothing that Ted couldn't fix! For the past year Ted could be found most days on the backhoe. It turned out to be his favorite piece of equipment.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Ted, Sr. and Ruth Skovgard; his sister, Betty Lou Skovgard; and his wife of 53 years, Sandra Skovgard on January 24, 2017.

Ted is survived by his five children: Janet (Tim) Grenseman of Glenrock, Wyoming, Jim (Beverly) Skovgard of Casper, Wyoming, Joseph (Sara) Skovgard of Wright, Wyoming, Joan Skovgard and significant other, Ernst Nieuwenhuis of Basin, Wyoming and Ted (Tracy) Skovgard III of Buffalo, Wyoming; thirteen grandchildren; two great granddaughters; two brothers, Scott Skovgard of Nampa, Idaho and Mitch Skovgard of Casper, Wyoming; and his sister, Anita Ankeny of Worland, Wyoming.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin, Wyoming from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Mount View Cemetery in Basin, Wyoming at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Kent Dempsey as officiant. Burial will immediately follow the service. Following the service, the family would like all to attend a luncheon and celebration of Ted's life at the First Baptist Church in Basin, Wyoming at 11:00 a.m. even if you can't make it to the service.

A memorial fund has been established in Ted's name at Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 471, Greybull, WY 82426 with proceeds to benefit the local FFA.
