Tennis Shields Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 14, 2016.
Tennis Randall (Randy) Shields of Walls, Mississippi was called to his eternal home on May 10th 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East, Memphis, Tennessee. Born in Welch, West Virginia. February 18th 1968 to Doris Sizemore Sullivan and the late Teddy Ray Shields. He was a graduate of Mt. View High School, Welch, WV. Randy worked in the home health field and was an accomplished musician. At the time of his death he was a drummer for Double Edge Band. Randy loved life, although, dealing with illness from an early age, he fought to do the things he wanted to do most. He was a lover of 78-79 Trans Am cars, German shepherds and most of all his drums. Randy loved people and enjoyed the friendship of many people throughout his life. Preceded in death other than his father, were his grandparents, Tom and Lucille Sizemore and Tennis and Beulah Shields; brother, Larry Ray Shields and his wife Terri. Those who love him so are his mother, Doris Sullivan of Daniels, WV; sisters, Rhonda (Mike) Breen of Tampa, FL and Dana Shields Thomas of Fayetteville, NC; his companion and love of his life, Freda Kay and her children, Tabitha (Bobby), Samantha, Jeannie and Amber; step-father, Glen Sullivan and his children, Kay, Linda, Tim and Wendy; nephews, Thomas Shields (Melissa), William Ray Jones; and niece, Melissa Proctor (Dustin); uncles, Thomas Sizemore (Kathy) and Eddie Shields (Shronda); and his best friend, Roy Waddell was by Randy's and Kay's side through his illness. A memorial service to honor Randy's life will be held at Beaver United Methodist Church, 3rd Street, Beaver, WV on Friday, May 20th at 2:00 pm. Randy's ashes and that of his beloved German shepherd, Sadie, will be laid to rest with his mother at her death.

I am so sorry to hear about Randy's passing. I had heard he was sick and I sent him a message a few months ago telling him that I was thinking of him and that I loved him. He was a sweet boy and even though he wasn't in our family but a couple of years he always held a special place in my heart. The last time I saw Randy was at our local Moose Lodge. He was doing what he loved best....playing those drums. He hadn't changed a bit...he was truly happy to see me as I was him. Doris, Kay and all the family I am so sorry. RIP Randy.

Randy,
He was always a kind friend, and it was hard to see him struggle with his illness since childhood when I knew him. I enjoyed spending time with him and felt bad that he wasn't able to participate in a lot of sports and activities due to his illness. I believe that my dad had been one of his doctors in Welch. I am glad that he was a believer and in heaven now. I will see him again someday. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

I feel like I lost a son in Randy.
We lived on Summers Street, I remember when he was born, My own son Chris was born "2"years after Randy and they became Best Friends from Toddlers on, Chris remined me that years later he spent many nights with Randy and had many Great Meals that Doris cooked.
Randy always took Chris for a ride in his Pride & Joy, He loved Randy like a brother and when I told him that Randy had passed, He cried.
We all loved Randy very much, He felt like a 2nd. Son too me.

Randy, You will be missed Son But we will see you again soon.

R.I.P. Randy.I love you,
