Family-Placed Obituary

BONE, Terry W. 66, died April 28, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Born April 27, 1941 in Lebanon OH, he grew up in Baytown TX where he graduated from Robert E. Lee HS. He pursued his first love, the theatre, through resident workshops at Houston's famed Alley Theatre, summer theatre on Cape Cod, and a year in NYC with occasional off-off-Broadway roles. Returning home, he acted in and directed productions at the Baytown Little Theatre and learned the art of bartending which perfectly suited his outgoing personality and innovative nature. For the rest of his life, he was among the most popular barkeeps in every area he practiced his trade. Much of that time was near the Manned (now Johnson) Spacecraft Center in Houston through the years of "the space race" and afterwards. Many of the famous astronauts and top engineers frequented his establishments, particularly the one-of-a-kind club he owned and ran himself for several years called "Fort Terry-The Universal Joint" or just The U-Joint. He moved back to Ohio in 1981 where he became a fixture as the head bartender at the Sugar Valley Country Club in Bellbrook "where everybody knows his name (T-Bone)" until retirement in 2005. He is survived by his brother Eric Bone of Las Vegas NV, stepfather Bob Crane of Lebanon OH, and stepsister Nancy Cunningham of Long Beach CA. Preceding him in death were his parents C. Harold Bone and Flossie Eltzroth Bone Crane, and half-brother Gordon Bone, all of Lebanon. There will be a family graveside service at the Lebanon Cemetery in the near future. Memorials may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas or Hospice of Cincinnati.

I miss his humor and laugh but he is gone now but never forgotten

How much we members of Sugar Valley Country Club miss T-Bone. He was our bartender, mentor, friend and bookie. He would always join us in the Halloween Golf Outing and play one hole with each group even though he didn't play golf. What a loss to us! We all have great memories of him. I was fortunate to have spent a day with him in Vegas last summer.

Sincere sympathy to you, Eric.

Love,
Conny

"Lost - somewhere between sunrise and sunset. One golden hour with 60 diamond minutes. No reward is offered because it is gone forever."

I consider any of the times that I spent with Terry to be of great importance to me. I was one of the very lucky ones to have known and loved him for what he brought to others. Yes he was very special - and will be missed terribly by those who were lucky to have crossed his path. I have known Terry since 1954 when my family moved "next door" to his family. What times that was - and we kept in touch through the years even though our lives took different roads. Terry was very fortunate to have Eric beside him these past months - and God bless him for making sure Terry had the best care possible.

I first met Terry at the Holiday Inn where he was manager of the club and bartended many years ago. Terry was very fiendly and had many people come to the club to say hello to him. Terry always carried a big smile on his face and he loved to make people laugh. He liked to entertain. It was in his spirit. Terry loved the theater, car racing and chess. He and I played a lot of chess both at the Holiday inn, the Universal Joint that he started up, and then on-line. These last few years we played practically everyday up until about November of this last year. I knew that he wasn't feeling good the last two years but he never would let me know how ill he was. Terry never did not like to tell you when he felt bad. He preferred making you laugh. I will always remember Terry with his big smile and jovial nature. He leaves that spirit with us. We will miss Terry.

I offer my deepest sympathies to his brother Eric and his family.

I originally knew Terry from the Embassy Club and Fort Terry-The U Joint back in the 1960's. I also lived in the same apartment complex as he did for a few years, and we shared some grand times together before he left the area. I am grateful we kept in touch. Terry was genuinely kind hearted, and his humor was appreciated by all who knew him. I will certainly miss him. God Bless.

Terry - friend & mentor to all. We have missed him here and hope that he is continuing his work of saving our souls and enlightment of our lives with a great smile or a good drink and an ear to listen. I really miss him as I'm sure all who knew him would shed a tear, a laugh, a story and a drink in his honor. God Bless. Joanie McInnis

My friendship with Terry started in the 60's and I will surely miss him. Terry was an avid fan of all car racing events and in the 60's through the late 70's Terry traveled with me as a friend and helper with our race car team. Terry was very knowledgeable in many professions and was the best bartender I ever knew along with knowledge of racing and most other sporting events. Those that knew him admired his many talents and some of us were lucky enough to have met with him in 2005 for a reunion of all the old NASA gang. We had a great time and was able to catch up on Terry's activities prior to his retirement. Terry was able to fill a big desire by moving to Vegas with his brother Eric when he retired. Prior to his illness we were able to keep in close contact by phone and email and I certainly miss his comical emails and phone conversations. Terry never failed to put a smile on my face as that was just another one of his talents. Our prayers are with his family in this time of grief.

I first met Terry while working at the Manned Spacecraft Center and he was managing the night club at the Holiday Inn on NASA Rd 1. I put in some special disco lights I made for him and later added new turntables and controllers. He was a great guy to have as a friend and bartender. His brother Eric and I worked in Bldg. 30 together, and they both bought some of my wild home made neckties. All my sympathies to his family and friends at this difficult time, and I hope he has God speed to his next station in life.

Terry was a good friend. I met him when he was a bartender at the Embassy Bar in the Holiday Inn on NASA Rd. 1 back in 1967. I helped him finance the U Joint or sometimes called Fort Terry's. For my assistance Terry awarded me the rank of Colonel. Most of us who knew Terry really liked him for his hospitality and sense of humor. He has been dearly missed since he left this area.
