Terry Grufman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2025.
Terry John Grufman, 68, passed away in the arms of his loving wife on March 14, 2025, at their home in Webb Lake, Wisconsin. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Terry lived a life dedicated to family, faith, and service.

Following in his father's footsteps, Terry joined the St. Paul Fire Department on July 9, 1981. As a firefighter, he was known for his strong work ethic, easy-going nature, and legendary fried fish and grilled chicken-earning him the respect of his fire crews and lifelong friendships. He retired on October 5, 2011, as FEO of Ladder 22, his favorite truck. While driving it, he often said with a smile, "I'm living the dream!"

Even after retirement, Terry continued to serve others. He found joy working at Industries, Inc. (now PHASE-Industries), where he mentored and guided young persons with developmental disabilities. His kindness and dedication made him a bright light in the lives of those he helped.

Terry's love for his family was unwavering. He met Judy in 1980 when he picked her up at a bar-a moment that led to 39 blissful years of marriage. Nothing mattered more to him than the safety, health, and well-being of his loved ones. He was immensely proud of his son Samuel and cherished their time together hunting, fishing, and simply enjoying each other's company.

Growing up on St. Paul's East Side with his parents and two brothers, Terry developed a passion for hockey, softball, and the outdoors at an early age. His brothers were his best friends; together with their father, they spent countless years hunting and fishing on their properties in Wisconsin.

Terry is survived by his wife Judy (née Baller); son Samuel; brother Steve (Diane); sister-in-law Patty Grufman; and many more in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Bernadette; brother Greg (Patty); and his faithful dog, Jake.

A celebration of life will be held on May 17, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at Trinity Woods Catholic Retreat Center in Trego, Wisconsin (N10884 Hoinville Rd., Ph:715-319-3064). Private burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in St. Paul. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.

Terry loved Jesus and lived by example-selflessly giving to others while embracing every moment with gratitude. His legacy of kindness and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Judy,
It's been a long time since high school, but I saw this obituary recently and felt the need to reach out. Your husband, Terry, sure looks like an awesome guy. By reading some of the notes to you it seemed he had a lot of friends and had a smile for everyone. I wish I could have met him.
Please remember all the wonderful times you had with him and keep the faith that you will see him again in heaven.

I will keep you in my prayers. Fly with the angels, Terry............

I always think of Terry at the family picnics, or family get togethers ... so fun to talk to, laughed so easily, and such a warm and kind man. I´ll miss him, and pray that all of the happiness and love you shared together bring comfort to you and Sam. God bless you all

I want to tell everyone who posts here how much I appreciate your words, memories, and consideration. Terry lives on in Paradise with Jesus our Savior, and I long for the day that I see my Beloved again. Please never stop posting here...drop a memory every once in awhile, whenever he comes to mind. The things you write help Sam and me. I wish I could reply directly, but the Legacy app doesn't allow that. Just know that your notes help us tremendously. Love to all of you, Judy

My Beloved, I miss you. The house is empty, even when others are here. I miss your blue, blue eyes and your teasing. BTW, I like the birthday "hug" very much. Thank you. Xox

Terry was a regular at the Webb Lake Recycling Center where I got to know him. Being I´m a retired firefighter from Webb Lake Fire Terry brought me a ST. Paul F. D. sweatshirt that I wear regularly. Now I will wear it in memory of a great friend. As God promised I will see you again.

We had the pleasure of knowing Terry only a few short years but his kind caring personality welcomed us as friends as soon as we met. His stories and laughter always left us wanting to stay just a little longer in his company. Judy our hearts go out to both you and Sam during this time. May his spirit soar with the Angels.

Judy, my heart and prayers are with you and your family. I am so very sorry for your loss. Terry was a joy and delight, and I was very saddened to hear of his passing. Father God, wrap Judy and her family in Your loving arms. Holy Spirit comfort them and guide them through this time. You never leave them nor forsake them. Draw them to You, for You alone give peace and heal hearts. Watch over them. You grieve with us and understand our sorrow. Be with them now in Jesus name, Amen.
