Terry LONG Obituary

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Terry on Thursday, March 2, 2023, in his 78th year, following his lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind Barb, his loving wife and soulmate of over 52 years; cherished son Jason; much loved grandchildren Lucas, Jaxxon and Laryssa; devoted niece and namesake Terri Helesic; close family member John Giesbrecht. Terry is predeceased by parents George and Kathleen; sister Gayle and brother-in-law Jimmy Helesic; mother-in-law Ann and brother-in-law Jimmy Dumas; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. In his younger years Terry enjoyed skiing, playing hockey and baseball. He loved The Great Outdoors, fishing, hunting and his beloved cottage on Lake Kipawa as well as numerous trips to the tropics. He will be greatly missed by many close friends including the Dana Breakfast Group. Terry worked at the Dana Frame Plant in Thorold South for 46 years completing his career there as Maintenance Manager. We will miss and love Terry forever. We would like to Thank Dr. Child, Dr. Arvinte, Sister Louise Dillon and all the staff on 2 West at Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital for their wonderful compassionate Care of Terry as his life's journey was coming to an end. A special Thank You also to our dear family friend Lynne Snyder for always being there for us whenever we needed her. A Celebration of Terry's Life will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society with allocation to Lung Cancer would be greatly appreciated by the family. Barb, You and Terry were such wonderful neighbours during our time in the neighbourhood. Terry had a strong presence and we all felt that much safer because of him. I can hear his laugh and his voice. I marvelled at his talent and knowledge when he was doing restoration of the car. And when the boat trailer was hooked up you never saw him happier - except when the grandkids came to visit. He was a genuine and caring man.
My heart goes out to you and Jason and his family. I'm keeping you in my prayers as I am Terry.

It is with deep sadness that I hear of Terry passing. I worked with Terry for many years at Hayes Dana/Dana. He was very knowledgeable, a perfectionist and a professional person. Terry was always fun to be around and we enjoyed many good times together. It has truly been a pleasure knowing him and his family.
My condolences go out to Barb, Jason and family. Terry will always be remembered as a formidable opponent and a fun guy to be with.

I have known Terry from day one at Hayes Dana.
He was a great fellow employee and we had some great times outside of work as well. I started to ski back then and it was because of Terry and Barb. Since then I moved to Collingwood one of his old stomping grounds.
He liked the outdoors and so did I. We spend time together and even spend New year In my old cottage along with other friends.
We will miss him a lot but the memories live on.
