Terry J. Walman, age 80 of rural Alexandria and formerly a longtime resident of Elwood, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. He was born November 1, 1940 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, the son of Halton T. and Nora (Trout) Walman. Terry was a 1958 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and later served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a security officer for Delco Remy in Anderson for 34 years before retiring in 1996. After that, Terry worked for ELSA Corporation in Elwood through Securitas Protection as a security guard from 1996 to 1999. He formerly attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elwood for several years. Terry was a member of the U.A.W. #662, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Tipton Elks Lodge, and the Frankton American Legion where he formerly served as an officer. He was also a member of the Elwood Conservation Club, was an avid NASCAR racing fan, and was a proud U.S. veteran. Terry led a very simple life, and enjoyed spending time at home.
Terry’s family includes a sister, Linda (husband Terry) Bookout of Anderson; several cousins including John (wife Claudia) Fink of Alexandria, Jane Ann Rector of Alexandria, Rose Marie (husband Jerry) Darling of Wilkinson, and Jerry Joe (wife Judy) Trout of Elwood; special friends, Vernie and Barbara Huse; and many nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; half-sister, Juanita Davis; and half-brother, Halton L. Walman.
Private graveside services and burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood with Terry’s cousin, Pastor Joe Trout, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morrisett Center Food Pantry in Elwood. Online condolences and memories may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
