Dear Chizu, Masako, and Ryoichi, Your mom was a fantastic individual full of life, a caring spirit, and kind heart. She will be greatly missed. I still have the fondest memories of you and your mom at Carnegie Library. She always brought me watercress or cucumbler sandwiches. Seems like such a small gesture, but it showed how kind and generous your mom was to everyone she came into contact with! May you comforted in the days ahead with wonderful memories of your mom. Much love, Florence Fong

Teruko was a Women's Association member long before I came to Pittsburgh and took the role of the Association to welcome newcomers to heart. She especially watched out for the wives coming for Japan, even those just staying for a short one-year assignment. She has not been active in the Association since health has prevented it, but participated in many activities over the years. She was always friendly to everyone and helped in any way she could, including making origami favors for functions.

Teruko was one of the first persons I met when I became Nationality Rooms Program Director in 1965. I recall her dressing me in a traditional Japanese kimono for a Post-Gazette publicity photo in 1966. Teruko could always be relied on to demonstrate origami to a children's group or at one of our many Nationality Rooms Open Houses.
The Shionos, as a couple, were an integral part of our Nationality Rooms Program and we are proud to administer the scholarship for summer study in Asia which he endowed a few years ago. They are deeply missed.

Our sincere condolence to the Shiono family for the loss of your Mother as well as your Dad. Your Mom was a delight. She would make origami gifts for our girls when they were young. She was always pleasant and greeted our family with a smile. May your hearts be comforted at this time with fond and proud memories of your distinguished parents. Neighbors,
