Thaddeus CHAPMAN

CHAPMAN, Rev. Thaddeus L. Rev. Thaddeus L. Chapman M.D. was born May 17, 1963, and transitioned from this life on April 16, 2017 at the age of 53. His spirit and passion for life was contagious. You could always feel God's presence in his every action and deed. He was widely loved as a friend, doctor and minister. He received a B.A. in Chemistry from Albany State University, and completed his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Kentucky before moving to San Diego, California where he practiced at the Naval Medical Center of San Diego for four years. Since moving to Atlanta he has practiced OB/GYN at Emory University Hospital at Midtown and dedicated his professional life to building his practice at Promised Land Women's Center. He was loved and adored by his colleagues and his patients. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He served in the United States Navy from 1991 to 1998. Thaddeus was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and the Meritorious Commendation and National Defense Service Medal from the United States Navy, after being honorably discharged in 1998. He was a faithful member of The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church where he was an active teacher and servant. He was an ordained minister and served as an associate minister at the church. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Henry W. Chapman Jr.; his grandparents, John Coney, Rev. Henry W. Chapman, Sr. and Mary Magdalean Chapman, his in-laws Julius and Oceola Adams; brother, Ardele Newkirk; uncles and aunts Frank (Ella Rose) Chapman, Bernice Mitchell, Thelma James and Mary Esther Adams. He was loved and adored by his family. He leaves behind to cherish many fond memories his loving wife of 23 years, Dr. Ira Adams-Chapman; two children, Jordan and Julian Chapman; his mother, Marietta Chapman; his maternal grandmother, Dora Bell Coney; five siblings, Alvin Chapman (Ramona), Darryl Chapman, TaJuanna Smith, Michael Chapman, Jocelyn Dudley and Carlton Newkirk; sister- in-law Michelle (Ricardo) Hamlin and brother-in-law Julius Adams Sr.; eight maternal aunts and uncles, Arlene Larkin (William d.), Johnnie Washington, Rosa Howard, Sara Coney, Elizabeth Hogan, John Coney, Darien Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. His Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 1:00 PM at The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1879 Glenwood Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316. Rev. Dr. William E. Flippin, Sr., pastor. His body will lie Instate at 12 Noon. Family and friends please assemble at the church at 12:30 PM on the day of service. Today, public viewing will held from 9 AM - 9 PM.
