Theadore Marsolek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2025.
Theadore Henry "Ted" Marsolek, age 75, passed away on July 12, 2025, in Orange City, Florida. Born on August 4, 1949, in Superior, Wisconsin, Ted lived a life rich in creativity, compassion, and community service.

A proud graduate of Cathedral High School in Superior, Wisconsin in 1967, Ted pursued his passion for the arts with unwavering dedication. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Wisconsin and continued his studies at the University of Minnesota and the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. His academic journey laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to fine art and education.

Ted's career was marked by an extraordinary devotion to the arts and to those around him. He was deeply involved in fine art exhibitions and fundraising efforts that supported artistic endeavors. As a director of school plays and an advocate for arts education, he inspired countless students with his vision and enthusiasm. His contributions extended beyond the classroom-he was active with the American Red Cross and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In recognition of his outstanding dedication to teaching and service, he received the LaSallian Teacher Award.

From 1984 to 2008, Ted traveled extensively around the world to further his studies in art. These journeys enriched both his personal artistry and his ability to teach others. He had a deep love for creating his own paintings and often shared them through personalized greeting cards that he designed himself-each one a heartfelt gift sent to loved ones on holidays and special occasions.

In 2010, Ted relocated from Minnesota to Florida, where he continued to make meaningful contributions to his community. From 2012 to 2020, he served as a Committee Member for Historic Preservation in Orange City, Florida. From 2020 through 2024, he brought his thoughtful perspective to the city's Planning Commission in Orange City, Florida.

Ted had a passion for collecting antiques and cherished what he called "air looms," treasures that carried stories from generations past. His home reflected his love for history and beauty-filled with carefully curated pieces that spoke volumes about his appreciation for craftsmanship and memory.

He adored all his cats and found joy in their companionship throughout the years. Those who knew him remember him as kind-hearted, generous with both time and spirit, always ready to lend a hand or share a warm conversation. In 2017 Ted created a painting group called West Volusia Plein Air 4 were they met every Monday morning at various parks in the community with close friends in attendance.

For over four decades, Ted held a special bond with Kenneth (June) Siwek of Orange City-a relationship he treasured deeply. Ted lovingly referred to Kenneth as "the son he never had," a testament to their enduring connection.

He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Patrick Marsolek and Henrietta Katherine Kolanek of Superior, Wisconsin.

Your own personal memorial celebrating Ted's life is all he wished for.

Thanks for supplying me with me paint so that I could work on my painting over Christmas break in 1993. I will continue to paint.

Am one of his classmates from Cathedral grade and high school. If I remember correctly he was my prom date, no lie. We were a family the class of '67 and even though none of us was perfect we enjoyed our time together in class, around the neighborhood, and attending school functions. Haven't seen him in years as I was unable to attend lots of class reunions---being in the Navy crimps lots of get togethers but I remember the great times, fun we had at our family's get togethers and just being together.

Ted was so kind hearted! I would see him often as a kid when my dad would help with building theater sets and then I had art class with him at DeLaSalle! He really helped further my love for art! We visited him once in Florida and he showed us around and we had a great time! He will be missed!

Ted was such a creative and generous soul! He gave up countless spring breaks to help chaperone our music tours at DeLaSalle. Ted created so many amazing sets for the De Theater, I think his favorite set was "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." It was common to see graffiti back stage saying "Ted is God!"
