Her brother "Coke" -- with a coke and cigarette

Bessie Wiles

January 18, 2018

Aunt Thelma was the best story teller ever. She could take a mundane vacation and turn it into a best-seller novel. Her Christmas cards were always a delight to receive. And she only wanted to receive written Christmas cards (not the online kind), because she wanted to know what was happening in our lives.

Unfortunately, my dad Coleman (her brother that she affectionately called "Coke") passed away on her birthday in 1979. He affectionately referred to her as "Sis."

Aunt Thelma will always have a special place in my heart. She was one of a kind.

Aunt Thelma could always tell the best stories about things that were often mundane. She had quite a gift. She always wanted to receive a written Christmas card, because she liked to hear what was going on in our lives.

Unfortunately, my dad, her brother Coleman, died on her birthday in 1979. She affectionately called him "Coke," as did most people who grew up with him.

Aunt Thelma will always have a special place in my heart.
