Resident of Gilroy
Age 93, died in Gilroy on August 30, 2014 at his home. He was born November 25, 1920 in Berkeley, California. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and served in the US Navy during WWII as a dirigible pilot. His over 50 year career in the insurance industry started in San Jose with Glens Falls and in 1958 opened Voorhies and Parrish Insurance in Gilroy, which later became Voorhies, Parrish and Hussar. He continued his career with Pacific Diversified Insurance until he was almost 90.
He enjoyed vitality, singing and loving life; sharing good humor with family and friends. A devote Catholic, he was acknowledged for his stewardship by the Vatican. He was an active member of the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, Saint Mary's Choir, Special Olympics of Northern California and several other charitable organizations. He will be remembered for his zest for life, true appreciation of people and his incredibly fantastic joke and storytelling expertise. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Mavis Marten Parrish and his son Marten. He will be greatly missed by his sisters Eileen Beynon (David) and Kathleen Spencer (Douglas), his children Jeffery (Maryanne) Parrish of Walnut Creek, Tony (Terri) Parrish of Petaluma, Heidi (Richard Araujo) Parrish of Gilroy, Scott Parrish of Salinas, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great, great grandson and numerous nieces & nephews. His family is forever grateful to Angie & her children for their compassionate care over the years and to Hospice in his final months.
Vigil Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 – 7:00 PM at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th St., Gilroy, CA 95020.
A Mass will be held at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Gilroy on Friday, September 12, 2014 – 1:00PM followed by a Celebration of Life.
Burial services at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery will be private. Donations may be made to Memorial Hospice, Cerebral Palsy of Northern California. Condolences can be made at HabingFamilyFuneralHome.com

Heidi, Roger and I were so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. We were at Habings on Thursday morning to make arrangements for Roger's Dad who passed the day before at 100! I can't find the email you gave me so here's mine: [email protected]. I'd love to see you. I have so many fond memories of your Father & Mother here and Marge in Saratoga! How funny that I would end up knowing both!

George was a favorite cousin of mine from early days at Diablo . His dad played a great piano by ear as we often gathered around to sing. It was then I really learned to enjoy singing.
Once he was sprayed by a skunk in Diablo and was named " Stinky " for a while. He was a great golfer, and broad jumper. ( 22'). Most of all, fun to be with.
I was lucky to have him in the family. God rest his soul. " Pete " Parrish.

Georgie was my first friend at PDI. I will miss him terribly. He had the best sense of humor and I LOVED our talks (gossip) He always made me laugh. He was the sweetest, kindest man I have ever known. I was blessed to have known him.

I will always remember his smiling face, his gregarious voice, and his love for life...He also got me started in education with my first job as a bus driver for Palma/Notre Dame...thank you George
